It was supposed to have the video to start with! Here ’tis…..
BAH!! Still screwed it up! Trying again!
The town being Amarillo, but only for a short time at the March for Life. He did participate and speak at the March itself and various other events. Apparently, both Bishop Zurek and Fr. Pavone feel that their “problem” is now in the hands of Rome, which must be comforting to Bishop Zurek. It is unlikely Rome will decide anything in Fr. Pavone’s favor, but we’ll see. I guess I should retract my statement that Fr. Pavone will never serve publicly in a pro-life capacity again. I pray he is released from his limited circumstances on Bishop Zurek’s own authority – and not Rome’s – soon. That’s the only way I see Fr. Pavone returning to the kind of ministry he exercised previously.
I do think it important to have at least some priest or priests dedicated full time to the pro-life mission. Abortion is such a critical social evil that must be fought, surely the Church can spare a priest or three.

Maybe this is what deacons/laity are for, to run these ministries. Perhaps a priest’s role should be solely about the salvation of souls via the sacraments only a priest can administer. Perhaps Fr. Pavone can do more good saying mass and hearing confessions than heading up the pro-life ministry. He can still preach what needs to be said at the homily. Perhaps ALL priests need to be first and foremost priests. These ministries are where the laity can get involved. Just perhaps.
But Woody, would you not say there is something about having a priest, someone with that authority, leading the cause? Whenever a priest is involved with something, it gives it more credibility. It also speaks to the Church’s commitment on an issue. If you hear two people being interviewed on a subject, and you are Catholic, the priest’s words bear more weight to some degree than the lay person, just due to the nature of his office.
Fox News doesn’t turn to Fr. Jonathan Morris just b/c he’s good looking.
I have to believe that the number of souls Fr. Pavone has had an impact on through his pro-life ministry is possibly more than he would have had at a parish. And he certainly did say Mass & hear confessions in his work via PFL. I know he did baptisms too.
Not to diminish the need for laity & deacons at all (since they are the ones largely running all of this), but I agree with the blog poster that the cause of abortion is so heinous & evil that a
priest or two dedicated to the mission full-time seems a prudent thing.
What is, exactly, the nature of the priest’s office that would give him special authority and credibility to lead a pro-life ministry? Not to say that a priest cannot be involved in any ministry of the Church but as opposed to being the leader of this type of ministry? Isn’t PFL sort of redundant? Aren’t ALL Catholic priests for life? Is the problem we don’t have enough priests out there leading these ministries or is it that we don’t have enough priests in the pulpit telling us the danger we put our everlasting souls in when we partake in matters of grave sin? I think it’s the latter. Fr. Pavone is a good, holy priest I think. I just don’t think he’s preaching the right point to the right people.
In the past, I devoted much of my time to pro-life causes and I never understood or perhaps I should say more strongly, I was VERY upset that our Pastors and Catholic leaders did not take a more out spoken stance against abortion or should a say for life. I use to coordinate pro life events and I so admired those in other denominations who spear headed such events and I did not understand why we would be asked to be in the line of fire and not have our church leaders leading the battle. I went to our Pastor and finally after spilling my heart about abortion, its effects on all of us, and that he needed to step up and lead his flock, he had a change of heart and even started coming out to lead the Rosary in front of the Abortion clinics. What greater cause is there to become involved in than the killing of our unborn or should I say greater sin. How many souls can be saved from turning us and this country away from the sin of killing an unborn child and killing the soul of its mother and those who partake in this terrible crime against the least of these. So – I admire those who take on this battle head on, even when they are persecuted by those in our own church.

What a great experience you had Susan! When one ‘young’ priest told me (with a Protestant Pastor present!) that “abortion is the law of the land now!!” I replied, “that’s what the Germans said at Nuremberg!”….We were politely asked to leave. The Pastor turned to me as we left, lifted his left foot off the ground & ‘brushed’ it off. “If they refuse your message, wipe the dust from your feet”, & smiled very kindly. We were out of view of the priest, but I was still in tears, for HIM! The Pastor told me, “you’re not alone, We have an over abundance of the same attitude in our Congregations! Don’t rock the boat”!
ps–We were gathering a group for an “Operation Rescue” event at 2 clinics in Austin. As we sat outside of that clinic, abused physically & verbally by the APD & PP workers, there was an overwhelming sense of The Holy Spirit! We were from different Churches, but we were really “one body”. That’s where I learned that it is going to take a great persecution to unite the Body of Christ! And we are getting closer by the day!
Thank You Jesus that I’ve lived my “3 score & ten”! I’m ready to go home anytime! I pray & offer sacrifices for my family & Our Father has been more than generous in His Graces sent to us. Because of the younger, “JP II’s” kids, & the promise that even the gates of hell shall not prevail, we know that victory is assured. But with every abortion & blasphemy, the price goes up! It’s time for the laity to wake up & make a stand! “SOCIAL JUSTICE” will not help us! Take the Eucharist to the streets in procession & praise, not protest! “The Battle Belongs to the Lord”!! Let Him take it over. Support His Priests & the Clergy that are His! For 40 yrs some of us (laity) have been ignored, chastised, labeled as “Pre Vat II crazies”….& on & on.These were some of the nicer things we were referred to by some priests & Many of the laity in our own Church! Well those priests & lay people now have what they fought for, & still, they complain about good priests like Fr. Pavone, Corapi, Rodriguez, & Macrae! Sometimes it seems like there are groups of people hunting down Orthodox priests just to throw out red herring issues to defame them, or even better, destroy them. Try the groups like St. Michael’s prayer warriors, Marion Helpers, Daughters of Mary….If you can’t get out, offer that as your prayer! If you have been given the ‘gift’ of “pain”, make the pain your prayer! God knows our hearts & limits! If the Church had been filled with holy, Spirit filled laity for the past 40 yrs, abortion would not be a problem now!! Abortion comes from Contraception & the numbers show that Catholics wanted the “pill’ as much as any one else! The longer we take to publicly seek God’s forgiveness, the harsher the chastisement we will earn!
I find it disheartening in the extreme to hear debates on what the role of a priest is, in this objective manner — when here we have a living, breathing, life-saving, life-changing, dedicated priest who has done absolutely nothing wrong in directing Priests For Life and who is being persecuted by a liberal Bishop because Democrats think he will make things too hot for Obama in November. Give your heads a shake and fall on your knees to weep aloud for your Church and mine.
