Breaking news – two auxiliary bishops named for Dallas March 13, 2010

Well, this was a surprise.  At least to me.  The Diocese of Dallas announced yesterday two new auxiliary bishops, Fr.s Deshotel and Seitz.  Fr. Deshotel had most recently served as Vicar General and was formerly pastor of St. Monica’s in Dallas.  Fr. Seitz had been pastor at St. Rita’s also in Dallas.

Bishop Farrell attributes these new bishops to the growth in the diocese.  I suppose that could be the case.  Of course, others have hypothesized that Bishop Farrell is only going to be here for a short time, to assess the damage and make recommendations, as it were.  Then, a different bishop would be assigned to try to improve things (plenty of work there).  Appointing a bishop who is more of a local f0r that role, as our next long term bishop, may make sense, it does tend to happen like that around the world.

Let us pray for our new auxiliary bishops!  May God bless them and grace them with zeal, wisdom, charity, and humility.  And may they have a love for the great Tradition of the Church, and be especially concerned with the formation that takes place in this diocese.  I pray that they will discharge their office with great love and tender affection for the Church.
