Pewsitter gets punked April 6, 2011

I like the Catholic news aggregation Pewsitter alot.  I grab stories from there semi-regularly.  But, today, they got punked, badly.  They post a link as a straight up news story to a comedy piece written on HuffPost, the piece being a paean to left type views of ‘tolerance’ and a general approbation of mythical “backlash” against Muslims.  Pewsitter seems to think this is a straight up news story, but it’s not  – it’s a poorly done, obvious satire.

The piece involves a mythical flight where a Catholic nun in habit boards and starts reciting prayers out loud in Latin.  The passengers mistake her habit for a burqa (fat chance – once again, a liberal reveals his disdain for the intelligence of the average American) and the Latin for some “taliban-i” language, and hilarity ensues.  Not really, but anyways:

She was dressed in Muslim garb and just before we were about to take off, she started mumbling something in an Arabian or Talibani-sounding language. What was I supposed to do?” Damien Thorn was a passenger seated in the adjacent row and said: “I knew there was something sinister about her, the moment she stepped into the plane. She was wearing those burqa clothes that you see the Iranian women wearing, and she only had a very small carry-on bag.” The flight attendant responded to the call and asked Sister Cora-Ann for her name, boarding pass and a photo ID.Blanche Dubois was another passenger sitting close to Sister Cora-Ann and explained: “Once I heard that her name sounded like Koran, I got worried. That does not mean that there is anything wrong with me, does it? I just did not want to die. I was so scared, that I just yelled out her name to all passengers.” Mr. Okonkwo was a passenger seated a few rows behind and stated: “Once we all heard that the passenger’s name was Koran, things started falling apart.” Frodo Baggins [fake alert – Frodo Baggins!], a frequent traveler, said he had heard that Muslims do not eat beef. “I did not think that she was Muslim, and to help her out, I took out some of my beef jerky and asked the lady to eat it to prove that she was not a Muslim.”

However, Sister Cora-Ann politely refused the beef jerky and reminded the other passengers that it was the time of Lent, during which Catholics often abstain from eating meat. The unrest in the plane kept growing, because most passengers were now convinced that Sister Cora-Ann was indeed Muslim and they demanded that Sister Cora-Ann leave the plane. “I did not want to cause my fellow humans any distress, so I left the plane”, she said.

Typically, nuns that wear habits do not travel alone.  Also, they don’t usually go by names like “Cora-Ann,”  typically, they have religious names.  Then, there is the whole Frodo Baggins thing, and the left-liberal disdaining view of legitimate security concerns regarding Muslims and air travel, quoting ‘average’ Americans as an obvious fake group of ignorant, bigoted slobs.

Read the whole story next time, Pewsitter.

MOST BLESSED and afflicted Virgin, Queen of Martyrs,
who didst stand generously beneath the cross, beholding the agony of thy dying Son;
by the sword of sorrow which then pierced thy soul, by the sufferings of thy sorrowful life,
by the unutterable joy which now more than repays thee for them;
look down with a mother’s pity and tenderness, as I kneel before thee to compassionate thy sorrows,
and to lay my petition with childlike confidence in thy wounded heart.
I beg of thee, O my Mother, to plead continually for me with thy Son, since He can refuse thee nothing,
and through the merits of His most sacred Passion and Death, together with thy own sufferings at the foot of the cross,
so to touch His Sacred Heart, that I may obtain my request,

Here pause and name the favors which you are asking Our Sorrowful Mother to obtain for you through this Novena.

For to whom shall I fly in my wants and miseries, if not to thee, O Mother of mercy,
who, having so deeply drunk the chalice of thy Son, canst most pity us poor exiles, still doomed to sigh in this vale of tears?
Offer to Jesus but one drop of His Precious Blood, but one pang of His adorable Heart;
remind Him that thou art our life, our sweetness, and our hope, and thou wilt obtain what I ask,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Hail Mary, Virgin Most Sorrowful, pray for us.
(Seven times)

The Canticle of Simeon (Lk 2:29-32, 34-35), not part of the Novena:

Now thou dost dismiss thy servant, O Lord, according to thy word in peace:
Because my eyes have seen thy salvation,
Which thou hast prepared before the face of all peoples:
A light to the revelation of the Gentiles and the glory of thy people Israel…….
Behold this child is set for the fall and rise of many in Israel and for a sign which shall be contradicted.
And thy own soul a sword shall pierce, that, out of many hearts thoughts  may be revealed.

I love you my mother.

$1.3 Billion in federal funds to Planned Parenthood unaccounted for April 6, 2011

Hey, a billion here, a billion there, it starts to add up.  They must have spent the money on invisible mammogram machines

Last June, we broke the story titled “Planned Parenthood’s missing millions” that fo- cused on $1.3 billion of government money received by Planned Parenthood from 2003 to 2008, which was left unaccounted for when the Government Accountability Office (GAO) issued a report on the expenditures of federal funds by the abortion giant.

Our question to Planned Parenthood was: Where are those missing millions?…………

If the Government Accountability Office doesn’t know how much federal money Planned Parenthood has been given, how in the world can the taxpayers know? If Planned Parenthood is not held accountable to 32 members of Congress requesting information from the GAO about its income and expenditure of federal funds, how can we taxpayers ever hope to know to what extent Planned Parenthood is fleecing us? Is Planned Parenthood really going to be allowed to ingest almost $1 million of taxpayer money every day (according to its annual report) and not be held accountable for how it spends it, then justify its lack of accountability by saying the Government Accountability Office doesn’t know how much federal money the abortion giant received?

So Planned Parenthood, which doesn’t perform any services other than performing abortions, handing out contraceptives, striving to infect the youth of this country with a decadent, sex is for my pleasure only mentality, and lobbying, can’t account for hundreds of millions of federal dollars given to it over the past several years?  An organization totally opposed to morality and with absolutely no qualms about killing innocent children by the millions also plays fast and loose with federal funds?  I’m shocked!  But then I remember……..everything Planned Parenthood says is a lie.

The walking of a pure soul with God April 6, 2011

Vera Sapientia, or True Wisdom, Thomas a Kempis, Book IV Chapter XIII:

Walk whilst you have light – John 12

He walks with God in light who desires to have nothing of this world, but has his heart fixed on God in heaven; for there is the hidden treasure of his soul, the Lord Jesus Christ, in whom all things are contained.

He is always miserable and in want, whatever he may have, who has not God for his Friend. He has God who keeps His Word and loves Him. He truly keeps the word of God who never says an idle word, who shows by his works what he says in words [doh! – ED], who seeks not his own glory, but entirely refers to the glory of God all the good he does or sees in others. [I have a propensity to want to give credit for my good works, or even those of others, to myself, often forgetting to render thanks to God for the Grace to perform the work, whatever it may be – ED]

He who pleases himself pleases a fool, and displeases God.  [I, am a fool – ED]. Therefore in all the good that you say or do study to please God, that you may receive from Him greater graces. Why do you glory in the gifts of nature, when you are mortal, and shortly to be the food of worms? Young man, hear the aged. Withdraw yourself from things which distract you, because you shall not find rest, unless you enter into yourself, seek God, and fervently love Him in preference to every good.

And a little bit on finding peace, from Book IV Chapter XIV:

Who is in good peace? He who is meek and humble of heart.

The better one knows how to humble himself and to suffer for God, the greater is his peace. Every burden is light to him on account of God, whom he has in his heart.

Blessed is he who speaks with God in prayer, meditation, singing, and reading, and is silent of what is done in the world.

Wherever you are, your thoughts accompany you.  Good thoughts give joy, bad ones bring sorrow, anger disturbs, envy blinds, and hatred kills. Pious reading instructs, prayer ascends to Heaven, and works fulfill the Word.  A good word purifies the heart, a vain one defiles it, an idle one scandalizes it, a hard one grieves it, a pious one pacifies it, a moral one edifies it, a learned one strengthens faith, and a heavenly one raises the  mind to God.

Cleanse, therefore, my heart from all evil, and it will be in peace.  There is no true peace unless in God and with the virtuous., who do everything for God, whom they love. Remain in silence, and put up with a little for God, and He will free you from all burden and unrest.

A virtuous life and a good conscience give confidence with God in tribulation and death…….
