Don’t accept evil mixed with good…… August 5, 2011

…….at least not as a matter of course.  I get alot of criticism about blog posts on the Knight’s or Catholic Charities, when I say that I cannot support them because of the problems with those organizations.  Some say……..aren’t you throwing the baby out with the bath water?  These organizations do alot of good, how can you oppose them?  We are not called to embrace evil mixed with good – we are called to embrace the good to the fullest extent humanly possible at all times.  That we will fall short is a given part of our fallen natures, but that doesn’t mean we must accept organizational evil because they do some good in some other area:

‘Enlightened’ parents in Canada are allowing their teenage sons and daughters to have fornicative sleepovers – in their own homes:

Kim Martyn’s daughters grew up talking about contraception, with books about the birds and bees spilled all over the house. When the girls were small, Ms. Martyn, a Toronto-based sex educator and author of All the Way: Sex for the First Time, told them stories about “how ducks reproduce.” As they grew up, there were condoms in the treat jar in the kitchen – expired prophylactics the girls merrily crafted into water balloons.

The laissez-faire bubble burst the night Ms. Martyn’s daughter, age 14, called to say she’d be sleeping over at a boyfriend’s house; his parents had okayed it. The response was not what the teen had in mind, given her upbringing.

“I said, ‘Not okay with us,’” says Ms. Martyn, recalling her maternal meltdown: “I’m going to drive down there and I will sit outside the house on my horn until you come out.” The sleepover is a head-scratcher for even the most liberal parents: While many clamour for comprehensive adolescent sex ed, consenting to have the deed go down in their homes is another story.

“A lot of parents feel like it condones something that they sort of wish wasn’t happening,” says Ms. Martyn, who eventually let her daughters sleep over with boyfriends once they were 17 and 18, but not without angst.

While the sex educator was well aware that her daughters would eventually engage in intercourse, one part of her wished they’d waited till they were 25…..

Hmmm…..let’s see – you flooded your kids childhood with age-inappropriate sexuality, you drenched their upbringing in thoughts of fornication and regular handling of condoms, and yet your surprised that your 14 year old CHILD thinks it would be a brilliant idea to fornicate with a boy she may or may not know well at all in your home?  I remember the ‘cool parents’ who used to let us drink in their homes when we were teenagers, and we never just fooled around with drinking, we got plowed every chance we got.  Did that pave the way for my alcoholism and drug-addiction?  I doubt it helped.

The article, which fundamentally takes the stance that children having sex is just wonderful on every level, routinely attributes parental opposition to mere ‘squeamishness,’ which, may be the case in post-Christian Canada and western Europe.  The article takes several jabs at how ‘uptight’ Americans are, without delving into the most likely reason why that is – this country still maintains a somewhat vibrant adherence to Christianity, and all that entails, morally.  But there is little more sacrosanct to the modern day secular pagan left, than the right of everyone, at any time, regardless of age, to fornicate freely.  For many in that small but incredibly influential group (controlling the reins of the media, and all), they can’t even remember Christian morality, let alone practice it.  2-3 generations into the great progressive experiment, they never even learned traditional morality.

In spite of what the article seems to claim, which is that there are no possible negative repercussions from children engaging in sexual activity at extremely young ages, there are many practical AND moral reasons to be strenuously opposed to this descent into hedonism.  I don’t think I even need to list them, but they are copious, and the collapse of western civilization is being hastened by those who have completely forgotten, or totally turned away from, the natural law written on all of our hearts and the constant belief of God’s Holy Church.  And it is reason #1 why this culture continues its rapid decay.

Uff, this is such a hideous, decadent, materialist, nihilist culture we’ve created.

Tomorrow is the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord….AND… August 5, 2011

Tomorrow is the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord – so go to Mass!  And start your Novena for the Assumption of Mary tomorrow, too!

Here is a Novena prayer to use for the next 9 days – which is the number of days the Apostles awaited the coming of the Holy Spirit in the Cenacle between the Ascension and Pentecost.

Mary, Queen Assumed into Heaven, I rejoice that after years of heroic martyrdom on earth, you have at last been taken to the throne prepared for you in heaven by the Holy Trinity.

Lift my heart with you in the glory of your Assumption above the dreadful touch of sin and impurity. Teach me how small earth becomes when viewed from heaven. Make me realize that death is the triumphant gate through which I shall pass to your Son, and that someday my body shall rejoin my soul in the unending bliss of heaven.

From this earth, over which I tread as a pilgrim, I look to you for help. I ask for this favor: (Mention your request).

When my hour of death has come, lead me safely to the presence of Jesus to enjoy the vision of my God for all eternity together with you.

Oh, and this year, we don’t get a Holy Day of Obligation for the Assumption of Mary (or for the Transfiguration, for that matter) – rolled into Sunday, AGAIN!  There are no non-Sunday Holy Days of Obligation this year!

We want our Holy Days back!  And processions – Marian processions used to a feature of Feast days like the Assumption of Mary.

Now this is what I’m talking about:

I hope you heard the radio show last night August 5, 2011

I don’t know if many were able to listen to the radio show last night, but I thought it was fantastic.  Fr. Michael Rodriguez gave a clear, unequivocal, but also profoundly charitable explanation on Church Doctrine with regard to homosexuality.  He established what Church Doctrine is, how Catholics should respond to it (obedience grounded in charity), and went over the controversy that has gone on in El Paso where many in the Church, including a number of priests, argue that unchanging, unchangeable Church Doctrine on homosexuality (supported by numerous clear denunciations of homosexual acts in Sacred Scripture) can and will be changed as the Church grows more ‘enlightened.’  Fr. Rodriguez also briefly alluded to the persecution he has faced – he obviously cannot go into details, but I understand the persecution, often at the hands of those who should be most supporting him and working with him, has been quite severe.  He needs your prayers, as does the Diocese of El Paso, which is not exactly a hotbed of Catholic orthodoxy.  But, I thought the program was really good.

Tonight – Michael Voris, and then on to the Carmelite Chapel!

Bishop Gracida likes me! August 5, 2011

I left a comment at Bishop Rene Gracida’s excellent blog, and he decided to turn it into a post!  Woot!  My man!  Bishop Gracida had a post regarind the secular left’s continuing efforts to drive Christianity from the public square, and one of their favorite battlegrounds is the military.  To the secular left, the military serves no purpose save as a testbed for their social engineering schemes, and Christianity has no place in that!  The Air Force had a very sensible program intended to ground missile launch officers – the men responsible for sending MinutemanIII missiles loaded with thermonuclear warheads to their targets – in just war theory.  Much of it was based on classic Thomist reasoning with a healthy dose of Sacred Scripture.  Well, to the secular pagan left, that is just too offensive, and they had to move to destroy the program:

The Air Force has suspended a course that was taught by chaplains for more than 20 years because the material included Bible passages.
The course, called “Christian Just War Theory” was taught by chaplains at Vandenberg Air Force Base, Calif., and used Scripture from both the Old and New Testaments to show missile launch officers that it can be moral to go to war.

But the watchdog group, Military Religious Freedom Foundation, said the course violated the constitutional separation of church and state and filed a complaint last Wednesday on behalf of 31 missile launch officers – both instructors and students.

David Smith, the spokesman for the Air Force’s Air Education and Training Command, said the main purpose of the class was to help missile launch officers understand that “what they are embarking on is very difficult and you have to have a certain amount of ethics about what you are doing to do that job.”
He said the class was suspended the same day the complaint was filed.

It’s a shame the Air Force chickened out like that, but they have bigger battles to fight and don’t want to face an annoying lawsuit.  So, according to the secular left, you can’t even MENTION Sacred Scripture or Christian beliefs in public in the military, otherwise, it’s a hideous violation of Church and state – which, to the left, of course, means no Church, and all state.  My comment in response to this sad turn of events:

My best friend was a missile launch officer at Minot AFB, ND from 1999-2003. Towards the end of his tour, he was a crew commander and instructor. He is also a devout evangelical Christian (in spite of my efforts at Catholic evangelization!), as are many officers in the USAF. It is not well known that many USAF officers are devout Christians. Colorado Springs, CO, the location of the Air Force Academy where most officers are formed and trained, has been a hotbed of evangelicalism, and that evangelicalism has had an impact on the officers trained at AFA. Actually, the evangelical dominance in Colorado Springs that was especially apparent in the 80′s and 90′s has somewhat waned, but there is still a profoundly Christian outlook among many USAF officers. My friend, however, did not got to AFA, he’s an Aggie. This course actually makes perfect sense. Missile launch officers are charged with ‘turning keys’ on 10-50 megatons of ‘instant sunrise.’ That is a profoundly difficult thing to do, even if one is sure the US would never order such a launch unless a devastating attack had already been committed against the US. Many officers struggle with this. There are many training scenarios enacted to decondition officers to the difficulty of this act – there are many exercises run where the officers go through all the motions of launching the missiles, and in some of these exercises there is no advance notice that it is only a training exercise. As far as the men in the Launch Control Centers know, they are doing the ‘real thing.’ Having a thorough grounding in Just War theory can be a help to this predominately Christian group of men, to provide a philosophical basis that can clarify the justification for what they are being called to do. The fact that this very sensible training has now been called into question by those politically motivated forces that oppose any public religious act – no, that’s not right – any public exercise of Judeo-Christian religion, for they thoroughly endorse islam in the public square – is a tragedy and revealing of their undying hatred of Christianity in particular. In fact, the secular pagan left has become aware of the preponderance of Christians in the USAF leadership and has been waging a campaign against that preponderance for a decade or so now. Witness the construction of a “wicca” worship site on the Air Force Academy grounds in the last year or two – something that is frequented by maybe one or two possibly intentionally placed malcontents, but a dark stain of the pagan and satanic on a noble institution. There have been other lawsuits against USAF for retaining elements of the profoundly Christian character of this nation’s founding. The secular pagan left will not rest until it has completely squashed any remaining Christian character in the armed forces. The Navy is a sad example of where that will lead, with a collapse of morals in the service (over a dozen ship CO’s relieved of command this year alone for fornicating with subordinates on duty) and a further erosion of THE key component character of the formerly American ethos – Christianity.

Actually, given other allied areas of the economy and electorate, like teacher’s unions, SEIU types, etc, government workers and their friends don’t have to get to 50% to have total dominance – they had dominance, or extremely influence, already in 2008.  And that influence has exploded.  We’ll see what happens next  year – whether this nation is still a democracy.
