For Greater Glory, the movie which tells the story of the horrific, marxist masonic persecution of the Church in Mexico in the first half of the 20th century, and of the Catholic resistance against it, opens tomorrow.

Rorate Caeli has seen the movie.  They recommend it.  They note that there is even a scene where a man known not to be in a state of Grace is denied the Blessed Sacrament. Loads of cassocks, turtlebacks, Mass facing the Lord, etc., etc.  Yay!

More background here:

It is amazing that, even here in Texas, up until about a year ago, I had never heard of the Christeros, Plutarco Calles, or any of this story.  Thousands were killed.  It was the worst persecution of the Church this hemisphere has ever seen.  And yet, it’s not even remotely news.  Or history.

I love how the left always seeks to cover its tracks.

I pray this movie is a huge hit.

Planned Parenthood national headquarters loves sex-selection abortion May 31, 2012

Another video from Live Action.  This time, they tape a woman at the Planned Barrenhood national headquarters/”flagship” abortuary, the Margaret Sanger Center for Baby Butchery, Eugenics, and Adolf Hitler worship:

It is ghoulish, how these Planned Barrenhood workers cannot refer to the baby as a baby.  It’s always a “pregnancy” or something else.

Planned Barrenhood is really stuck.  They can’t, ideologically, oppose abortion for any reason.  So now that the deliberate murder of young girls for no other reason than that they are girls is becoming more and more of an issue, they have nowhere to go.  They can issue all the false statements about being opposed to sex-selection abortions, but those statements are transparent lies.  Really pathetic lies.

As an aside, the ban on sex-selection abortion did not pass the House. Obama opposed its passage.  I do not comprehend how a man with children – daughters yet! – can be accepting of murdering baby girls simply for being girls.  I swear, there is nothing more sacrosanct to the left than abortion.  It is the synthesis of all their errors.

The terrible impact of the shifting of the focus of the Mass May 31, 2012

I was told, specifically, not to do this.  May God have mercy on me.  I was told to drop Iota Unum – not truly a command, but a strong recommendation.  I did, a bit, but picked it up again last night.  The analysis regarding the shift of focus in the Mass from a Sacrifice to a community meal is so profound I feel called to present it.  I pray this leads none astray, but edifies them in a right understanding of the principle role of the Mass – that of Sacrifice.  Just as a reminder, you can read a good portion of Iota Unum for free on the SSPX Asia website.  The below is from Chapter 37, The Eucharist (not on the website, that I could find):

The centrality of the Eucharist in the mystery of the Catholic religion means that its degrading leads to the degrading of all the other Sacraments that lead up to it.  This lowering is particularly obvious when it comes to the Sacrament of Holy Orders, which gives a man the ontological capacity to perform the act of transubstantiation. [ontological implies a change in essence, or in being] In this point of religion, as indeed on all points, realities and their manifestation are bound together by bonds which cannot be broken; to try to break them is “to clash with the fates” (Inferno, IX, 97, Dante Allegheri)

The “new theologians” attempt to equate the priesthood common to all the faithful with the sacramental priesthood, by which certain individuals are marked out by an added charadcter which gives them a new level of being [an ontological change in being] and enables them to effect the transubstantiation of bread and wine in the Eucharist.

The ontological element in the priesthood exactly corresponds to the ontological element in the Eucharist, and it obviously follows that if the Sacrament does not involve an ontological transmutation of substance, but merely a transposition in meaning that does not go beyond the order of human mental processes, then there is no need for the priest to have any special level of being, any ontolotical peculiarity, to enable him to effect a change which is itself not ontological. [Thus, eliminating the notion of the Real Presence, or even simply shifting focus exhorbitantly towards the anthropocentric view of the Mass as a “remembrance” of Christ’s Sacrifice, wipes out the need for a sacramental priesthood.  Even more, it drives the faithful to profound doubt regarding the Incarnation and Resurrection of our Lord] If what is present in the Eucharist is Christ, as He is present spiritually in the community gathered together to remember the Last Supper, all specifically priestly activity is superfluous because it is the meeting of the faithful people that constitutes the “eucharistic presence” of Christ. In that view of things, the priest does not give effect to any substantial change in the elements of bread and wine.  Rather, on the basis of an equality shared by all members of the Church in their exercise of their common priesthood, the priest simply presides at the symbolic change performed by the community. [which is why I find statements by priests that they merely “preside” at the Mass, rather than offer the Mass, very disturbing.  Even if such a priest accepts, apparently, the transubstantiation of the Eucharist, the notion of “presiding” seems to point towards a problematic view of the purpose of the Mass and the reality of the change in essence that occurs during the Consecration]

The reduction of the Eucharist to a memorial gathering was officially approved by article 7 of the Institutio Generalis Missalis Romani (the first General Instruction of the Roman Missal released after Vatican II)promulgated by Paul VI on 3 April 1969.  It defines the Mass in these terms: “The Lord’s Supper or Mass is the holy assembly or meeting of the people of God, gathered together under the presidency of a priest to celebrate the memorial of the Lord.” [This language is exactly that used by Thomas Cranmer to help “break” the belief of the faithful in England to the Real Presence during the dismembering of the Church there. He specifically chose to eliminate reference to the Sacrifice and to shift focus – totally – to the Anglican service as a community meal]  According to Charles Cardinal Journet, Paul VI admitted that he had signed the Institutio without reading it, even though it was an important doctrinal pronouncement.

The fact that the definition of the Mass advanced is objectionable on various grounds, and dubiously orthodox becomes obvious upon inspection, and was also confirmed a posteriori by its retraction some months after it was promulgated, and its replacement by a doctrinally correct formula. [This was actually done mere weeks after the initial release of the General Instruction of the Roman Missal (GIRM) – 1969.  It was in May 1969 that  the official publication of the Sacred Congregation of Divine Worship, Notitiae, released the retraction which, very rightly, asserted the Mass as Sacrifice again.  This was done separately from the other modifications, for many other problems, made to the 1969 GIRM when it was replaced by the 1970 GIRM.]

Up until Vatican II, all schools of theology and all catechisms defined the Mass as a true and proper Sacrifice, in which through the ministry of the priest, Christ offers His Body and Blood to the Father for the remission of our sins……….The Mass, which is a series of sacred actions, cannot be identified with a meeting, which is a moral entity.  Nor can it be erduced to a remembering of the Lord, since memory is a matter of merely mental attention. It is true that Christ said “Do this in memory of Me” (Lk 22:19), but the remembering is consequent upon the doing.  We are not commanded to remember what Christ has done, bur rather to do the same thing that Christ did (hoc facite) and to do it to remember……Nevertheless, whole episcopal conferences have adopted the idea that the Mass is merely a memorial; the French bishop’s Missal of 1969 expressly states that in the Mass “it is simply a matter of making an act of remembering the one sacrifice already accomplished.”  This is grammatically the same formula condemned as the “mere commemoration” condemned at the Council of Trent (Session XXII, Canon 3).

This  new conception of the Mass as remembrance basically implies a subjectivization fo the Sacrament, because by saying nothing about transubstantiation, the objective side of the matter is ignored.  Everything is reducible to the congregation’s experience of its own faith……..

……Emptying the Sacrament of its real content has two main results. First, if there is no supernatural ontological change in the Eucharist, there will be no need for a supernatural ontological power to bring about Christ’s Presence in the Eucharist: this causes the priestly office to be lowered from the level of a giver of the sacred, to that of a first among equals at the assembly’s celebration. Second: since Christ’s presence is conceived of as a presence in the community, brought about by remembrance, the fact of the consecration of the elements by the priest at a given point will wane in importance, compared with the fact of the coming together in unity of the congregation, with or without any idea of an ontological basis for such unity dependent on the Sacrament.

———————————————–End Quote——————————————-

This is already a very long post, so I will endeavour to be brief.  A few notes: if the Mass is no more than a community meal or remembrance of Christ’s one time Sacrifice on Calvary (which is, in fact, the protestant view, for the most part), then why go to Mass?  If Grace does not flow in huge amounts from that ongoing re-presentation of the Sacrifice, but is available in each of us already when we present at the remembrance, why bother going?  And if the Mass isn’t a Sacrifice, and doesn not have Heaven and earth touch at the glorious moment of the Consecration, then why not have bongos and clowns and dancing and feasts with all kinds of food and general carrying on?  I mean, it’s a party, right?  It’s all about us, right?  So, why not?

In reality, the view of the Mass tends to cause two direct effects: 1) the death of vocations – why be a priest when we’re all really priests, essentially equal?  Or why give your life to a religious order when you can party in the world with the rest?  2) The death of Mass attendance and material support for the Church.  Why should I go to Mass, when all we’re doing is reveling in a Sacrifice long past?  Can’t I do that at home?  And if there is nothing truly transcendent, other than Christ’s presence in our own awesome selves…..can’t I also do that at home?  And without the transcendent, why should I support the Church?

Those glorious churches of the past, with the expensive stained glass windows and marble altars and altar rails were built by people who believed in something truly transcendent, an awesome Gift coming from on high that they were totally unworthy to receive.  This feeling of something totally beyond themselves prompted their generosity, to offer God something back for all He has given, and gives, us.  These things die when the Mass is reduced to an immanentist, pantheist, anthropocentric celebration.

I guess the final point is – everything in the Faith is connected.  You can’t assault one part of it, or disbelieve it, without it having massive ramifications throughout your faith life or the life of the Church.

I got these from Pertinacious Papist, who will likely send someone to break my kneecaps for ripping off so much of his stuff.  It’s Steve B’s fault, really, he pointed me in that direction.

There is something about that picture in the background, the girl with the black eye, that is disturbing me, however.

I encourage my girls to tie their veils under their chins but they seem strangely resistant to  my suggestions.  Not sure why that is.

Very good justification for wearing the veil.

Go back in time and start it!  Sorry, I’m late. But I think you can start today and finish on the feast day and be OK!

I thank Thee, Jesus, my Divine Redeemer, for coming upon this earth for our salvation, and for instituting the august Sacrament of the Most Holy Eucharist in order to remain with us until the end of the world.

I thank Thee for hiding beneath the Eucharistic species Thy infinite majesty and beauty, which Thy Angels delight to behold, so that I might have courage to approach the throne of Thy Mercy.

I thank Thee, most loving Jesus, for having made Thyself my food, and for uniting me to Thyself with so much love in this wonderful Sacrament that I may live in Thee.

I thank Thee, my Jesus, for giving Thyself to me in this Most Blessed Sacrament, and so enriching it with the treasures of Thy love that Thou hast no greater gift to give me.

I thank Thee not only for becoming my food but also for offering Thyself as a continual sacrifice to Thy Eternal Father for my salvation.

I thank Thee, Divine Priest, for offering Thyself as a Sacrifice daily upon our altars in adoration and homage to the Most Blessed Trinity, and for making amends for our poor and miserable adorations.

I thank Thee for renewing in this daily Sacrifice the actual propitiatory Sacrifice of the Cross offered on Calvary,  in which Thou satisfiest Divine justice for us poor sinners.

I thank Thee, dear Jesus, for having become the priceless Victim to merit for me the fullness of Heavenly favors.

Awaken in me such confidence in Thee that their fullness may descend ever more fruitfully upon my soul and let me always be worthy of Thee.

I thank Thee for offering Thyself in thanksgiving to God for all His benefits, spiritual and temporal, which He hath bestowed upon me. In union with Thine offering of Thyself to Thy Father in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass,

I ask for this special favor:

(Mention your petition here)

If it be Thy holy Will, grant my request. Through Thee I also hope to receive the grace of perseverance in Thy love and faithful service, a holy death, and a happy eternity with Thee in Heaven. Amen.

O Lord, Thou hast given us this Sacred Banquet, in which Christ is received, the memory of His Passion is renewed, the mind is filled with grace, and a pledge of future glory is given to us who are worthy of Thee.

Thou hast given them bread from Heaven. Having all sweetness within.

Let us pray.

God our Father, for Thy glory and our salvation Thou appointed Jesus Christ eternal High Priest. May the souls He gained for Thee by His Blood come to share in the power of His Cross and Resurrection by celebrating His Memorial in this Most Blessed Sacrament, for He liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, one God, forever. Amen.

O Jesus, since Thou hast left us a remembrance of Thy Passion beneath the veils of this Sacrament, grant us, we pray, so to venerate the sacred mysteries of Thy Body and Blood that we may always enjoy the fruits of Thy Redemption through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Planned Barrenhood happy to perform sex-selective abortions – UPDATED! May 30, 2012

I guess this broke yesterday, but I was behind all day.  Planned Barrenhood caught, yet again, being what they are – agents of the culture of death, willing to do anything, no matter how immoral, to make a buck.

The first video was apparently shot in Austin.  But Planned Barrenhood claims to have found similar Planned Barrenhood facilities in other states willing to kill babies simply because they are the wrong sex.  This puts to the lie, for the umpteenth time, Planned Barrenhood’s claims to be all about “helping” women and families.

Live Action says Planned Parenthood and other U.S. abortion providers are willing to assist in the termination of baby girls for pregnant women who choose abortion because they want to have baby boys. And the pro-life abortion watchdog says its video series and a new website will expose it all.

“This was a multi-state, national investigation demonstrating that this is a widespread problem across our country,” Live Action president Lila Rose told The Daily Caller in an interview Monday.

“First of all, the statistics and studies indicate that we are adding to the growing problem across the world of sex-selective targeting of unborn girls for abortion. We are going to be demonstrating — starting with this video from Texas — that the abortion industry in the United States is aiding and abetting this horrific problem.”

The first in what Live Action says is a series of videotaped incidents exposing American abortion facilities’  willingness to assist in sex-selection abortions took place at a South Austin, Texas Planned Parenthood clinic. In the footage, a Planned Parenthood counselor appears to readily assist and advise a Live Action actor who said she was trying to obtain an abortion if her baby is female.

“In this video, what is astounding is that Rebecca, the Planned Parenthood counselor, starts arranging with the actor about how to get a late-term abortion,” Rose said. “To wait until her pregnancy is so developed that — and using Medicaid for this, using the state to pay for the ultrasound to determine the gender, and then to do a late term abortion if it was a little girl.”

I can’t tell you how  many times I’ve been told by people pursuing an abortion that paying for it is no problem, that Medicaid will cover it.

How many stings will Planned Barrenhood have to undergo before it is completely defunded?  How many before it loses all credibility among those who are not rabid pro-aborts dedicated to the cause of choosing to destroy human life?  Planned Parenthood has been caught arranging race-selective abortions, being willing to perform abortions on underage girls without parental consent, being willing to cover up for sex abuse of children by discreetly destroying the resulting pregnancies, aiding and abetting prostitution and sexual slavery by not reporting potential abuse, overcharging the government for ostensible Medicaid services…..and that’s just what I can remember off the top of my  head!

This is an utterly immoral, out of control, evil institution.  You can’t perform acts of barbarity day in and day out, or even advocate for the same, without hideous damage to your soul. In reality, these folks are slaves of satan.  As such, there should really be no surprise at all when we find scandal after horrific scandal with this crowd – those who are consumed with evil will do evil things.  And, as always, they will call it good.

It is a damning indictment of our nation that we do not have the moral outrage to have this institution not only de-funded, but completely shut down and many of its officers facing criminal investigations.  It is truly the progeny of its demented, depraved founder.

UPDATE: A quick update.  Even though Planned Barrenhood conveniently fired the staffer for having the temerity to follow their policy and encourage a sex-selective abortion, Planned Barrenhood’s own press releases in response to the Live Action sting claims they are fine with performing sex selective abortions, or abortions for any reasons, so long as they can kill babies and make money at it:

This spokeswoman for Planned Parenthood Federation of America also told The Huffington Post that the organization condemns seeking abortions on the basis of gender, but its policy is to provide “high quality, confidential, nonjudgmental care to all who come into” its health centers. That means that no Planned Parenthood clinic will deny a woman an abortion based on her reasons for wanting one, except in those states that explicitly prohibit sex-selective abortions (Arizona, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Illinois).

In this matter, Planned Barrenhood is hoist on its own petard.  They can’t, ideologically, oppose sex-selection abortions, because they have to claim that ALL abortions are good and wonderful and empowering.  But at the same time, they have to appease their feminist supporters by claiming to be opposed to sex-selection.  What a pathetic group.

Update 1: It’s Ember Week.  Fast and partial abstinence today, Friday, and Saturday.  That is, one full meal with meat and two small meatless meals today and Saturday, total abstinence from meat on Friday (as usual).

Update 2: The June 8 Rally for the Rights of the Church Religious Freedom has been moved to Fort Worth.  I have no idea why that would be, it is certain to reduce the size of the crowd that will attend.  The rally is still on June 8 at noon, but now in front of the Lehman federal building in Ft.Worth.

Update 3:  The Mass for the Carmelite rendering her vows to Mother Juanita Marie will not be a TLM.  It will in fact be a NO in English, but with a choir and incense.  This Mass is at 5pm Sunday at the Carmelite Chapel.

First this:

The question has often come up in  my mind……are we in the midst of the worst crisis the Church has ever faced?  I have wavered on this…..in the Arian heresy, almost every bishop went over to heresy.  It was Athanasius against the world, and all that (in reality, he had some strong support from a Saint in Seville, and the Pope never went over except when hoodwinked by Arians and signing something he didn’t intend to, all while old and blind and frail and literally held prisoner by the Arians).  But, the lay people generally held to the true Faith, for the most part.  As did much of the clergy.

The protestant revolt was also incredibly severe.  About 1/3 of the Church in Europe fell away.  But, it was localized, and did not affect some countries, like Spain, at all.  The Church was also rapidly expanding into new lands, aided tremendously, as always, by our Blessed Mother.

But the problems in the Church today are universal.  They exist from the very highest levels to the very lowest.  A huge proportion of the Church – by far the majority – either doesn’t practice the Faith, practices it only slightly (Christmas and Easter), and/or apostasizes on many beliefs.

I’ve read a great deal of Church history.  I’m not expert, but based on this reading, I would estimate that the crisis today is probably more widespread than any other in the history of the Church.  It is more problematic because there is great confusion in the presentations of the Faith at the highest levels – bishops, cardinals, etc.  As I discussed last week, we actively have cardinals in the Church repudiating one another’s beliefs.  And this on core doctrine, not some prudential side issue.

The reasons for this terribly widespread crisis are many and really beyond the scope of this blog post, or any one blog post.  Lord knows, there have been shelves full of books written and hours of videos made on this subject.  But, in essence, the crisis comes down to a lack of Faith in Jesus Christ Incarnate God on earth and thus the Truths He has revealed through His Church have become “optional” or “negotiable.”  That is the essence of modernism – modernism claims, by frequently citing now outdated and almost completely refuted “evidence,” that if Jesus Christ even existed, He was merely a man – the revival of the Arian heresy, writ large.

And since records from that time are not exactly 100% thorough, perhaps the original Arian heresy was worse.  It’s hard to say.  Be that as it may, we have been suffering, and continue to suffer, through one of if not the greatest crisis in Church history.  The Church is literally at war with itself – I don’t mean just between differing views of Her, ummmmm……believers……but I mean the Church is at war with Her very essence – what She is and what She is called to always be.  That is the irrefutable crisis, the heart of the matter.

There is nothing left for us to do, but pray, to do our best to live the Faith that has been handed down to us as the most precious of gifts, and to try to make people aware of this Faith through all our actions.  We must be saints, for this is a time for saints.

The collapse of western civilization, zombie edition May 30, 2012

So, a guy apparently strung out on an apparently new and, I would guess, extremely powerful form of lysergic acid diethylmide (LSD) – some say it was a synthetic cocaine or meth – , committed an act of barbarism that exceeds reason, and even imagination:

A naked man is shot by Miami Police while eating another naked man’s face on the MacArthur Causeway.

As the story quickly went viral across the Internet, some have likened the attack to one by a zombie. Details of the unthinkable attack included police reporting that when they ordered the cannibal to stop, he looked up with blood on his face and growled at officers.

I don’t necessarily have a big point here, but Lord help us.  If that face eating zombie druggie ever makes it into NA (in prison), he might set the record for the lowest low ever recorded.
