St. Mark in Plano at 7pm.  No Latin Mass on Memorial Day.

There will be a Requiem High Mass (Nofus Urdo) on June 4.  That should be interesting, I’m not sure what the differences will be with a TLM Requiem.  Come out and pray for your loved ones!

Interestingly enough, a “Nofus Urdo” Mass done properly (with Gregorian chant propers, etc)comes a lot closer to a TLM than it does to the standard issue ad populum NO. There are still some differences in the prayers, of course, and there’s the added “sign of peace” (thought that IS optional in the NO) and the “mysterium fidei” verse. But when everything is done in Latin and ad orientem, you get a sense of what most of the Council Fathers probably had in mind. IMHO, of course. 😉

I don’t disagree. There’s a bigger gulf, to me, between a very reverent NO in Latin, esp. with the Roman Canon, and the regular garden variety NO, than there is between the very reverent NO and the TLM. I think some of the statements in Sacrosanctum Concilium were inadvisable and paved the way for abuse, but what the Council proposed is not at all what we’ve gotten at 99% of NO Masses.

And I said Nofus Urdo because I’m getting tired of this same post every week. From now on, it will be Nervous Urdu!
