The controversial muslim demographics video that has caused so much consternation at the Synod of bishops….. October 18, 2012

….is here for you to see.  I’ve seen it before.  Many of you might have, as well.  Cardinal Peter Turkson is the one who had the video shown at the Synod of Bishops, and the Vatican and many of the other bishops in attendance have been falling all over themselves in trying to repudiate the claims in the video.  Here it is, discussion below:

In general, this video is telling the truth, although it exaggerates or extrapolates excessively.  The birth rates for non-Muslim Europeans are accurate. The birth dearth in Europe is catastrophic, with countries like Italy, Greece, and Spain having birth rates so low they may well be unrecoverable for centuries (nothing is permanent, any decline can be reversed, but will take time).  It is no coincidence that the countries with the lowest birth rates also have some of the weakest, most debt ridden economies in Europe. But, the video misrepresents islamic growth in Europe. For muslim birth rates have also collapsed, they just haven’t caught up with European levels, yet.

Across the Mideast, birth rates are in collapse in muslim countries.  Iran, Tunisia, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, the Gulf States, virtually every muslim country outside sub-saharan Africa and Indonesia is seeing a collapse in birth rates faster, even, than that experienced in the West.  But because muslim rates were higher to start with, say, 40 years ago when the collapse began, they haven’t quite reached the levels of Europe, yet, but they will, and soon.  As David Goldman showed very convincingly in his book, islamic birth rates are falling faster than has ever been seen anywhere in history.  Very soon, islamic states will have their own birth dearth to be concerned about.  But, there is a gap of 40 years or so, between the collapse of European birth rates, and islamic.  That is the danger period.  You will have very large, relatively young muslim populations in Europe, surrounded by (and feeding, clothing, and housing, through the disastrous welfare states) a largely old European population.  What happens in that circumstance is anyone’s guess.

What Goldman does show, and I’ve seen it in other places as well, is that, around the year 2080 or so, Europe’s population will stabilize in terms of muslim/non-muslim content, at around 35-40% muslim.  That, in and of itself, is scary enough.  The data does not show that the European states will be out and out muslim-majority, but a few might, and many will be close.  It’s hard to tell what kind of impact that will have on Christendom’s home, but I doubt it will be positive.  Given the hostilities that already exist, and will likely grow as European economies implode, the potential for wars, pogroms, and other disasters will be immense.

This is something I think the Vatican should be very concerned about.  The possibility does exist that Rome could be surrounded by a half muslim, half pagan population around 50-60 years from now.  While the data in this video may exclude some important elements and exaggerate others, the basic message, that Europe is about to become way, way more islamic, is sound. I think it is a sad reflection of the state of the Church today that many shepherds would rather put their heads in the sand and ignore this sea-change in the reality of the Church’s homeland, rather than face it, and, horror of horrors, actually preach to their flocks about the manifest, grave evil of contraception/abortion use.  Of the hundreds of speeches at the Synod ongoing in Rome, not one – NOT ONE! – has focused extensively on the collapse in the birth rate of formerly Catholic countries and its principle cause – satan’s little helper, contraception.  It appears none of the invitees get it, at least not publicly, which is all that matters.

Pray, pray, PRAY for our shepherds, and offer up sacrifices/mortifications!  That is the best way for us to change the Church.  And live the Faith in a vibrant, public, joyful way.  People should KNOW you are Catholic!  Don’t make them guess!  Have a crucifix around your neck!  Have one on your desk at work!  Your home should be wallpapered with Catholic art, so that people will say “what is wrong with them?!”  Give all praise and glory to Jesus Christ and His Holy Church through your thoughts, words and actions!  God bless you!

C’mon, you know you want to!  This could actually be done as a Novena, which I am certain would be very meritorious of Grace!  From the wonderful, edifying, highly-deserving-of-your-support Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary at the St. Benedict Center in Still River, MA:

All for Jesus through Mary! Let Our Lady know of your perpetual love and devotion. Throughout life she will be your great Queen and defender for “in the end her immaculate heart will triumph!” Consecrate your family to the Immaculate Heart of Mary today!

Oh Mother Most Pure, we come to you as a family and consecrate ourselves to your most Immaculate Heart. We come to you as a family and place our trust in your powerful intercession.

Oh Dearest Mother Mary, teach us as a mother teaches her children, for our souls are soiled and our prayers are weak because of our sinful hearts. Here we are Dearest Mother, ready to respond to you and follow your way, for your way leads us to the heart of your Son, Jesus. We are ready to be cleansed and purified.

Come then Virgin Most Pure, and embrace us with your motherly mantle. Make our hearts whiter than snow and as pure as a spring of fresh water. Teach us to pray, so that our prayers may become more beautiful than the singing of the birds at the break of dawn.

Dear Mother Mary, we entrust to your Immaculate Heart of hearts, our family and our entire future. Lead us all to our homeland which is Heaven.

Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us.

Amen.

Catholic nun blasts US, NATO, for supporting Syrian rebels October 18, 2012

This is a very powerful interview.  A Melkite Catholic nun, Mother Agnes Miriam, foundress of the Monastery of James the Mutilated in Damascus, Syria, discusses the horror of the ongoing civil war in Syria, as well as the terrible persecution of Christians and the West’s seeming support for this largely foreign insurrection (that is to say, most of the insurgents are not native Syrians, but Saudis, Pakistani’s, just jihadis in general, but largely non-Syrian born).  God Bless Mother Agnes and her order:

Here is a video from last Easter at the monastery, which apparently has both male and female religious:

Syria has the largest remaining Christian population in the Mideast, save perhaps for Lebanon.  The two communities are about the same size, although Lebanon’s is proportionately much larger.

Please pray for them!  I understand that before the most recent violence, Catholicism was making some modest inroads in converting muslims to the Faith!

But now, the jihadis are especially targeting Christians and the entire community is under grave threat. This could be Iraq all over again.  The jihadists are gaining more and more freedom of movement around the Mideast.  You can’t build enough drones to track them all.  Is this the fruit of our Mideast policy for the past 10 years?

Nuncio: Egypt’s new islamic government is great, freedom abounds! October 18, 2012

No, really, he said that, and apparently meant it!

Archbishop Michael Fitzgerald, the Holy See’s apostolic nuncio in Egypt and former president of the Pontifical Council for Interreligious Dialogue, has painted a relatively positive view of life in Egypt since the Arab Spring.

I think there is a greater freedom now, though [Egypt’s Christians] accuse the present regime of also clamping down on people, on trying to control the press,” he said. [They accuse the islamists of a few more things than that]

“My own message to them has been, look, there is a new spirit of democracy, and you have to build on that,” he added. “Though the Islamists are in power now, this doesn’t mean to say that they will always be in power. This depends on you.” [You’re only numbered 10:1, but it’s all on you, Christians, if you get robbed, beaten, or murdered, that’s your fault!]

With all due respect to Archbishop Fitzgerald, he has to be either willfully blind or is so over-concerned with the political angle that he can’t see reality anymore.

An Egyptian Coptic Catholic (in union with the Holy See) bishop at the ongoing Synod had a different take on things:

Since the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood in power, we are witnessing a new process of Islamization of state institutions,” added Coptic Catholic Bishop Kyrillos William of Assiut. “As before, Christians continue to be considered second-class citizens,” and hatred of Christians continues to be sown in schools.

Actually, the Bishop is being a model of charity and restraint – Christians are being persecuted, their homes and businesses ransacked, women are raped or otherwise attacked, murder is rampant, even crucifixions have been reported.  But, to nuncio Archbishop Fitzgerald, these are just minor disturbances en route to a glorious democratic future!

If you read all of Archbishop Fitzgerald’s comments at the original Catholic News Service site, you might be forgiven for developing the impression that Fitzgerald holds odd notions of democracy, and what notions he holds, might be held a bit too dear.  He seems willing to tolerate just about anything so long as some image of “democracy” can be put forward, even if that means ignoring atrocities on a mass scale.  Either democracy, or the precious, precious illusion of “ecumenism.” Either way, his words did not exactly ring with support for the persecuted Christian minority.

I was going to post a picture of recent crucifixions from the Mideast, but I can’t.  They are too horrible.  I don’t think we can imagine what our Blessed Lord went through for us. Crucifixion is about the worst form of death I can imagine.  It’s not nearly so “clean” as even the bloody, Passion of the Christ type scenes show.  It’s terrible, the body goes through unspeakable things in the process of crucifixion.

I will be on Fidelis Radio tonight with the Salve Regina Radio Show.  9pm CDT, listen live, here, or anytime after the fact.  Tonight, I’ll discuss more election topics and I might bring up an interesting discussion I had with a priest.  It depends on how good you are.  Also, I have some hot opinions about the ongoing Synod of Bishops in Rome that is just wrapping up.

I hope you can listen!

Whiskeybreath McCrazypants – pro-life just like sharia! October 18, 2012

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, aka Whiskeybreath McCrazypants, recently stated on air, in one of his more hallucinatory moments, that pro-lifers are just like radical sharia-law enforcing muslims:

[T]here’s a grand canyon of difference between Obama, who’s very pro-choice, and, for example, the Republican ticket this year, which would give 14th Amendment rights, whatever that means, life, liberty, and property rights, to a fetus that had just been – or rather, an egg that had just been fertilized, right after sex, if you will.

And to have that notion that that would be a person under this personhood thing that [Paul] Ryan’s pushing, and under the 14th Amendment rights, the platform that [Mitt] Romney’s running on. [I wish he were running on this platform!  Like in so many cases, Chris Matthews has no idea what he is talking about. It would be very hard to reconcile personhood as it is usually defined with a rape and incest exemption.  This is a gross mischaracterization, typical of Matthews playing to an audience that views conservatives as, at best, strange aliens from another planet, and, at worst, Nazi monsters to be exterminated]

This is extremism!… [I]t’s almost like Sharia. You’re saying to the country, we’re going to operate under a religious theory, under a religious belief. [This is truly rich. If any group operates on an emotional level, without reason, with an almost religious adherence to constantly disproved concepts, it’s the left. Science and religion are perfectly in accord with regard to when life begins – at conception. This increasingly difficult reality is causing the left to experience massive cognitive dissonance] We’re going to run our country this way, to the point of making a woman’s decision to have an abortion, her reproductive rights, as criminal, perhaps murderous. [Until the Supreme Court made up a right “emanating from the penumbras,” abortion was considered murder. Abortion kills a child. Period. If you call it murder, manslaughter, termination, or a “choice,” the result is the same. A baby dies.]

This entire argument is just silly, wild-eyed pandering to a the tiny audience MSNBC attracts. I frankly shouldn’t even mention Matthews, for if it wasn’t for bloggers like me constantly pointing out his unhinged statements, no one would know who he is. I’m sort of playing the game, keeping his notoriety up by doing this.

But the reason I wanted to post is to make clear that the Romney/Paul ticket is not that pro-life……they’re certainly not anymore pro-life than the ticket Bush ran on a few years ago.  Was that also sharia law?  And I think Reagan ran on an even more pro-life ticket.  Funny, I don’t recall women wearing burqas or hajibs, being forbidden to drive cars, having to pay the jizya tax, or any of that stuff back then.  Nor do I recall the terrible Christian police going around forcing people to give their lives to Jesus, to make altar calls, watch the 700 Club, and all that.

I wish the Romney/Ryan ticket was much, much more pro-life.  I think a lot of faithful Catholics and other pro-lifers are pretty concerned about how pro-life Romney really is, because he’s been all over the map on this issue.  I think we have a lot of doubts, very well founded doubts. I am sorry to see Paul Ryan seemingly back away from some of his pro-life advocacy of the past in support of the Romney election campaign.

A note to Chris Matthews Whiskeybreath McCrazypants – AA works.  Try it.
