Thanks to a commnter for the tip. It won’t be 1 year before we’ve read about some scandal with this gay student group at Notre Dame, where there was some radical speaker brought it, scandalous act, or whatever occurred.  The university will have essentially no say over this organization – as if that would stop scandal.  But, to Bishop Kevin Rhoades, it’s all a wonderful pastoral initiative.

One of the essential characteristics of a Catholic university is “fidelity to the Christian message as it comes to us from the Church” (Pope John Paul II, Excorde ecclesiae). In its recently released Pastoral Plan, the University of Notre Dame clearly affirms its fidelity to Catholic Church teaching on human sexuality by affirming that “sexuality is ordered to the conjugal love of man and woman” and that “the deliberate use of the sexual faculty, for whatever reason, outside of marriage is essentially contrary to its purpose.” It affirms the teachings of the Church on the commandment and vocation of love, the virtue of chastity and its expression in friendship, the importance of self-mastery, and the call to holiness. The Planaffirms Catholic teaching that men and women who have homosexual tendencies “must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. [maybe, but it doesn’t say one blessed thing about how sinful homosexual acts are, or any acts outside marriage, ordered towards procreation.  But homosexual acts were particularly offensive to God, Who made sure His Word covered the topic in detail]

It is vitally important that the Foundations of the Pastoral Plan, which express Notre Dame’s fidelity to Catholic teaching, inform and guide the implementation of the Plan, including the vision, programs and activities of the new student organization that is being formed. The Pastoral Plan states that “the organization’s purpose arises directly from the University’s Catholic mission and its aspiration to create a community where all may flourish and feel welcome, where we aspire to an even deeper understanding and appreciation of Catholic teaching, and where the human dignity of each Notre Dame student is valued.” …….I also hope that the Pastoral Plan will be of support to all students at Notre Dame in living a chaste and holy life according to the teachings of Jesus and His Church.

Please.  This is the university where there sits in tenured faculty positions heretics of the worst kind, from Fr.? Richard McBrien to Gary Gutting, with a dozen or five in between, how exactly has Notre Dame helped its students live a chaste life?  McBrien has apostasized on contraception for years, and for much of that time was head of the theology department.  Before E. Michael Jones went off his nut, he categorized just how toxically anti-Catholic, how laughably secular the culture at Notre Dame has become in story after story after story. And yet, we’re supposed to believe this same institution is going to magically enforce Catholic Doctrine now with regard to homosexuality.  B as in B, S as in S

Larry,
WHAT does that B and that S
stand for ?
(Joke.)

“The road to hell is paved with the skulls of Bishops.” (St. Crysostom)

Seriously Larry ,
You do us a great service monitoring and keeping us up to date on the state of things in our beleagured Church. You so leave us in no doubt that our Institutional church is a pale shadow of it’s former self.
My question is why is there not at least one Bishop doing exactly what you do – ie telling us the Truth about his fellow Bishops and their shameful shennanigas. If you can do it so can they.
ANSWER:
They just don’t CARE enough— NONE of them.
COMPARE:
Look how much the NFL people care about their image. They jumped in instantly to bring back the regular referees at the first sign of real incompetency by the part-time referees, whereas our Bishops seem to see their role as champians of mediocrity— and NONE seem to care.
My conclusion therefore is that there is NOT ONE TRUE BISHOP in the USA
who takes his job seriously. If there WERE one, he would surely be exposing (as you do) these

“… wolves in sheep’s clothing.”
A bishop’s obligation is to Christ and to all of us -not just to his own Diocese.

Our Bishop’s don’t care enough and they will all be running scared should the good Lord pay us a visit.

That IS how bad things are.

Let’s not kid ourselves about this. This did not happen without ample warning.
‘Too many professional catholics in our Church whose work for Christ is mere self-serving.
” He who pays the piper calls the tune ”
And what a dreary dirge our Bishops play.

What’s interesting about this group is that it is not set up only for homosexuals but others that PARTAKE in deviant sexual behavior. This group is not set up to help the members resolve their sexual perversions but to facilitate their abnormal sexual gratification amongst themselves. It is also set up to recruit “new” members. The president of ND as well as the bishop of fort wayne-south bend are just a couple of jokes if they think that this group will abide by the teachings of the Church.

I knew E. Michael Jones when he was outing this problem at NDU in the 80s and 90s. He also has, I think, a good book on Medjugorje. You say he went off his nut. Explain, As I lost track of him about 12 years ago or longer..

He’s into what I really see as very strong anti-semitism. Not traditionalist Catholic concern over Jews and Judaism, but “the Jew-media/porn industry controls and is ruining the world.” But with even less tact than I just used. He’s into some weird psycho-sexual conspiracy theory.

He started losing it about 10 years ago or so. You are right, he used to do tremendously important work, and still does to an extent, but it’s mixed in with things I canna’ accept.

What about money? How much money would be recongnized by the administration to accept this student organization? How much federal money? How much money from philanthropic organizations? How much from alumnae? Money means everything to ND.

“The university will have essentially no say over this organization – as if that would stop scandal.”
Actually, the University has MORE say over this group than it would a normal student club. The group will be monitored by a hired faculty advisor whose job is be the liaison between the club and the administration. Nothing will be done without the faculty member’s approval.

Care to cite your sources? Or are stereotypes good enough for you? This is not a social hangout group. If you care to concern yourself with the sexual sanctity of Notre Dame students, try attending a good ‘ole heterosexual dorm party, and let me know what you think.
Also, as I already mentioned, the group is headed by a faulty advisor who will ensure that all official actions are consistent with Church teaching. What’s a joke is that you think college kids need an officially recognized group to find hook-ups. Again I invite you to investigate the purity of heterosexual students on Notre Dame’s campus.

Woody - December 10, 2012

My sources, Mr. Irish? Google any homosexual club on any university and see what they do. Know anyone who is a member of one of these clubs? Ask them what they do. Take your head out of your…hands and face realty. And what makes you think that heterosexuals do not also partake in abnormal sexual perversions? However, they don’t form clubs to tell the world what they do. As for the faculty advisor, how many homosexuals are part of the faculty? You just have to look at their bios to know. However, you want to make it easy. Go ask a current student who they are or ask a current facutly member who they are. This is not about what college kids do on campus behind closed doors in “secret.” It’s about a group of kids being led by adult perverts, maybe just like you, who are more interested in leading these kids astray. There is no place at a CATHOLIC school for an organization that promotes sexual deviancy. However, I’m not sure Notre Dame is such a school.

Gotta disagree a bit on one point, Woody, showing how far we continue to fall. There are mostly hetero “BDSM” clubs now openinig at Harvard, Yale, and the other highly influential, formerly elite ivy league institutions. I saw an article on this just the other day.

Within 15 years, will ND have a bondage and domination club?

6. Hugh Beaumont - December 12, 2012

Now that gays are able to get married, I assume they will abide by the standard rules of abstaining from sex before marriage?
