Dr. Edward Sri, who has written a number of books on the Bible from a fairly orthodox Catholic perspective, will be giving a conference at 7pm Monday January 21 at St. Gabriel parish in McKinney.  The talk wil be on preparing for Lent in the Year of Faith and a Biblical walk through the Mass.  That last topic could last a week at 4 hours a day!  But I’m sure it will be a good talk.  While I’ve never read any of Dr. Sri’s books, I know people who recommend them highly, and I trust those people implicitly.

All details here————->>>>Sri Poster-B in PDF

It is a very good idea to start preparing for Lent before Lent.  That’s why the Traditional Mass has a season called Septuagint, to get ready for the major penitential season of the year.  We shouldn’t be scrambling around trying to figure out what mortifications we can offer when Lent starts. We should be ready to roll, if not already rolling, as Septuagint helps to do.

Dominus vobiscum!

Now this is my kind of pastor! January 15, 2013

And it seems he’s got a pretty orthodox parish – regular Adoration, Confession every day but Sunday (4 hours a week – not bad), public Rosary…….good stuff.  But when his fellow citizens voted in the utter falsity of state recognition of gays simulating marriage, he called it as he saw it.  Welcome to Sodom (my emphasis and comments):

Pastor’s Letter Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Bethesda, Maryland

Welcome to Sodom. Yes, that is what Maryland has now become. Sodom with its neighbor Gomorrah was a city of antiquity whose disregard for the natural law of human love led to its destruction. That same disregard is now written into state law. The distinctive physical and life-cultivating complimentarity of woman and man has been dismissed as a basis for marriage. Additionally, those who cannot honor this diluted definition in their personal and business activities will be held legally liable for discrimination and punished accordingly.

Already, the owner of a trolley service in Annapolis seeing this coming announced he will no longer offer wedding services. By doing so he will lose much of his business, but he cannot in good faith go along with treating as normal what is not, neither can we.

It is a great sadness that many of Satan’s helpers in ushering in this demonic distortion of marriage were Catholics, such as our governor. In promoting this desecration they have not only brought dishonor to our holy faith and shame to all Catholics, but invite the real possibility of damnation on themselves. We must pray that they recognize this error, repent and make reparation. [Great words!  It is terribly sad that so few Catholics hear the clarion call of Truth in this manner!  Many priests would rather equivocate, if they do not actively believe error themselves, out of fear for offending their dissenting/heretical laity.  Most just leave the subject alone out of fear of being “controversial.”  Silence equals assent in cases like these.  It is a dereliction of duty not to present ALL the Truth Christ has revealed through His Church, even though it may make some or most uncomfortable, even angry.]

Some may interpret my words as an unfair disregard for individuals who bear same-gender attraction. It is not. Such brothers and sister must be loved and embraced. Indeed, we must make greater efforts of proper inclusion and support. At the same time true love is not allowance for any activity. It has no authority to overlook what is written in nature. Love cannot comply with a lie. It first honors what God has designed, and then encourages all to live in authentic love that leads to true fulfillment. Nothing changes for us, because God defines marriage. This has not changed. The purposeful union of man and woman was the crown of God’s creation. Anything else by that name mocks what God has created, and therefore mocks God. [!!! I like this guy!]

None of the great moral evils of our time would be a reality without Catholic support. Abortion, legalization of contraception, widespread divorce, so-called same sex marriage – none of these would be more than legal, but omnipresent, without active Catholic support. This support has often taken the form of Catholic legislators acting against the belief and practice of the Church in pursuit of their own personal interest. But those legislators have been elected by Catholic laity who have grown very accustomed to selectively disregarding aspects of the Faith which don’t suit them – or the culture they serve. More pastors like the one above, strongly relating what the Church believes and holding souls to account for their action could likely have prevented this terrible trend of Catholics serving in the vanguard of the shock troops at war with their own faith. Or what they claim to be their own faith.  Lack of episcopal and priestly leadership has played a big part for the current state of the culture and its ongoing demise.  Only strong leadership at the parish and diocesan level can begin to turn this around.

The Grace of God is not communicated to the worldly minded January 15, 2013

From Thomas a Kempis The Imitation of Christ Book III Chapter 53:

Son, My Grace is precious; it suffers not itself to be mingled with external things, or earthly consolations.

Thou must, therefore, cast away every obstacle to grace if thou desire to have it infused in thee.

Choose a secret place for thyself alone; seek not to be talking with any one; but rather pour forth devout prayers to God, that thou mayst keep thy mind in compunction, and thy conscience clean.

Esteem the whole world as nothing’ prefer the attendance on God before all external things.

For thou canst not both attend to Me and at the same time delight thyself in transitory things. [and, yet, I do this so very much. You might call me Mr. Attachment…. Mr. Abrasive Attachment]

Thou must withdraw from thy acqaintance, and those dear to thee, and keep thy mind disengaged from all temporal comfort.

So the blessed apostle Peter beseeches the faithful of Christ to keep themselves as strangers and pilgrims in this world (1 Pet 2:11)

Oh, what great confidence shall he have at the hour of his death who is not detained by an affection to anyting in the world.

But an infirm soul is not yet capable of having a heart thus prefectly disengaged from all things, neither doth the sensual man understand the liberty of an internal man (1 Cor 2:14).

But if he will be spiritual indeed he must renounce as well those that are near him as those that are afar off, and beware of none more than of himself. [Sadly, oftentimes those closest to us are most complicit in “bringing us down.”  And we, in turn, do the same to others!  St. Alphonsus Liguori claimed that married people are rarer in Heaven than white flies.  Think about what that means…..]

If thou perfectly overcome thyself thou shalt with more ease subdue all things else.

The perfect victory is to triumph over one’s self. [and how hard it is!]

For he that keeps himself in subjection, so that his sensuality is ever subject to reason, and reason in all things obedient to me, he is indeed a conqueror of himself, and lord of all the world.

If thou desire to mount thus high, thou must begin manfully, and set the axe at the root (Matt 3:10), that thou mayst root out and destroy thy secret inordinate inclination to thyself, and to all selfish and earthly goods.

This vice, by which a man inordinately loves himself, is at the bottom of all that which is to be rooted out and overcome in thee; which evil, being once conquered and brought under, a great peace and tranquility will presently ensue.

But because there are few that labor to die perfectly to themselves and that fully aim beyond themselves, therefore do they remain entangled in themselves, nor can they be elevated in spirit above themselves.

But he that desires to walk freely with Me must mortify all his wicked and irregular affections, and must not cleave to anything created with any concupiscence or private love.

The pedophile push begins in earnest January 15, 2013

One of the innumerable arguments against not just state recognition of gays simulating marriage, but normalization of the entire homosexual lifestyle, is that invariably homosexuality will just be the foot in the door, so to speak, of all other manner of perversion.  I will admit, I have a great deal of trouble working up even a modicum of charity for the next target for normalization: pedophiles.  I do feel pity for them, but the effects of their actions are so totally devastating, so soul-destroying (both for themselves, and their victims), that my charity is stretched to the breaking point. Because I have seen the effects of child molestation in an adult woman I used to work with, and, to put it mildly, she’ll never be right. She had all manner of addictions, not the least of which were sexual, and had about the lowest self esteem I’ve ever come across. To put it mildly, she felt she deserved to be sexually used by men because she was fundamentally bad.  This, from a child of God.  This is the chief effect of child sexual abuse.

But with the increasing normalization and societal acceptance of homosexual, those who have fallen into other deviant lusts are seeking to get normalized, too.  A recent article in the UK’s Guardian – a notably left wing rag (go figure!) – begins the attempt by quoting some “expert” who claims that children are capable of giving consent to the sexual advances of adults.  How convenient!  In a few years, our children will not be safe.  Any society that would even debate normalizing or somehow legalizing this kind of atrocity committed against children does not deserve to exist anymore.  I think Almighty God would feel likewise (my emphasis and comments):

Britain’s most persecuted minority have found a new advocate. An article this morning in the Guardian by feature writer Jon Henley addresses misconceptions about paedophiles, quoting one “expert” who believes that: “It is the quality of the relationship that matters”.

No, this is not not some sick send-up on my part. “If there’s no bullying, no coercion, no abuse of power,” says Tom O’Carroll, “if the child enters into the relationship voluntarily … the evidence shows there need be no harm.” [B as in B, S as in S. Children are children exactly because they don’t have the reason and judgment to make adult type decisions. We don’t let children make major business decisions, we don’t (or at least sane people don’t) give them access to power machinery or credit cards or let them do all manner of things that they simply don’t have the judgment for.  The simple fact is, there can never be a meeting of equals when an adult abuses a child, or in any adult/child relationship.  Adults have overwhelming authority over children, so that they can never give what an adult would consider rational consent – as if they would want to. Unless they have been traumitized by early sexualization (exposure to porn, childhood friends who sexualize them, etc), children generally have no interest in or conception of sex until mid-late adolesence.  Please peruse this to understand the sould-destroying effects of child sex abuse]

O’Carroll is a former chairman of the Paedophile Information Exchange with a conviction for distributing indecent photographs. [how many children had their lives ruined so he could enjoy his perversion, even in absentia through kiddie porn?  How many suffered and continue to suffer as a result?] The Guardian acknowledges this, but gives him a respectful hearing and points out that “some academics do not dispute” his views.

Now listen to this amoral, emotionally laden “reasoning” that could only come from a person educated to the point of embicility:

For Goode, though, broader, societal change is needed. “Adult sexual attraction to children is part of the continuum of human sexuality; it’s not something we can eliminate,” [we can perhaps never eliminate the desires, but we can make darned sure that those with this inclination know that acting on that inclination will lead to a lifetime of prison, ostracism, and misery. Pedophiles are lost people, morally, they need very strong deterrents to keep from acting on their desires.] she says. “If we can talk about this rationally – acknowledge that yes, men do get sexually attracted to children, but no, they don’t have to act on it – we can maybe avoid the hysteria. We won’t label paedophiles monsters; it won’t be taboo to see and name what is happening in front of us.”

We can help keep children safe, Goode argues, “by allowing paedophiles to be ordinary members of society, with moral standards like everyone else”, and by “respecting and valuing those paedophiles who choose self-restraint”. Only then will men tempted to abuse children “be able to be honest about their feelings, and perhaps find people around them who could support them and challenge their behaviour before children get harmed”. [all part of normalization, which would greatly reduce barriers to pedophiles acting on their inclinations. If societal ostracism goes away, that’s a major disincentive removed right there, but, furthermore, such acceptance would likely bring all manner of changes in its train, such as reduced prison sentences, which would further incentivize victimization and lead to more abuse.  Bad plan practically speaking, leaving out the immorality of it all]

They qoute some studies I’ve already seen entirely discredited yesterday.  The entire piece in the Guardian is meant to generate sympathy and “tolerance” for pedophiles.  It’s actually a form of projection of the basest kind.  The writers and staff at the Guardian likely have their own kinks or immoral sexual behavior that, through the natural law implanted in their hearts by God, gnaws at them, and they seek to normalize themselves by normalizing something even more extreme. I would suspect. It’s a theory, anyway, but would seem to explain a great deal.

But regarding pedophilic men, real scientific studies have concluded two things about them: first, like homosexuality, once someone falls to this level of sexual depravity, it is almost impossible to overcome the fall and return to an upright moral life.  And secondly, men seriously attracted to kids almost invariably wind up acting on their urges, either through kiddie porn or actual abuse.

I’m not saying anyone who somehow admits to pedophile attraction should be locked up. But we also should, as a society, always condemn such desires as disordered, immoral, and plainly sinful. I know, I’m a crazy man, subscribing to a faith and actually believing in its moral code!  The frightening thing is that, today, there are many people who think I should be locked up for holding that moral code, and even evangelizing others to do the same, rather than those who do all manner of harm to others.

I would ask the Guardian this question – if pedophilia is normal, why are you and so many allied media organizations so energetic in persecuting the Church over this very issue?  Are you sure you want to deny you and your friends such an effective club with which to beat the Church?

There is a new group – kind of like a sodality, if you will, called the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart of Mary/The Living Fast, that has started up in this our fair Diocese by some good, dedicated souls who felt there was an urgent need to get more souls involved in regular mortification.  They sensed the need in themselves, first, they proposed the idea to others, and very quickly many scores of people had signed up.  They have a website,  where you can find out all about this living fast, and what it entails, which is, in essence, fasting one additional day every week or so. It’s more than just a fast, however, the intent is that each member of the group offer this fast for the intentions of all the other members, so that what it winds up being is one huge, continual group fast where prayers and mortifications are being offered up constantly to God on behalf of all.  I think it’s a brilliant idea. So brilliant, the founder of this effort, Adrian Montes, will be on my radio show Thursday night!

Obviously, each member has their own particular intentions, but there are general group intentions for the Pope, for our country and its conversion, for the sanctification of all priests and especially our own pastors, etc.

Some info from their website:

Our mission is to fast/sacrifice for the private intentions of the members and the Holy Father, Priests, and Country.  Currently, that means we have 200 souls fasting for your private intentions six days a week, 24 hours a day!  It’s a living fast.  All members are assigned to a team/patron saint that will fast on a particular day of the week.

There are no obligations for members of the group except to fast as agreed on the days appointed – or to pray/offer sacrifices in place of fasting as agreed:

a) One meal a day and/or two lesser that is equivalent to one meal.immaculate-heart

b) For health reasons or women who are expecting/nursing can make a suitable sacrifice in lieu of fasting.

c) Please don’t fast more than twice a week without consulting your spiritual director or confessor.

d) Remember charity comes first…It defeats the purpose if people know your fasting.  For example:  When invited to a formal event, eat and offer another sacrifice.

I should add that this effort is under the spiritual direction of a traditional priest, and a number of priests have signed up themselves. This effort is open to ALL.

Please sign up for the Living Fast by registering here!  That way, you can be assigned your day of fast and the organizers can keep track of the number of people involved.
