That’s Friday, Sept. 20 2013. The Feast of St. Michael and the Holy Arcangels is Sept. 29.  I got this Novena here.

Saint Michael the Archangel, loyal champion of God and His people, I turn to you with confidence and StMichaelTheArchangelseek your powerful intercession.

For the love of God, Who made you so glorious in grace and power, and for the love of the Mother of Jesus, the Queen of the Angels, be pleased to hear my prayer.

You know the value of my soul in the eyes of God.  May no stain of evil ever disfigure its beauty.  Help me to conquer the evil spirit who tempts me.  I desire to imitate your loyalty to God and Holy Mother Church and your great love for God and men.  And since you are God’s messenger for the care of His people, I entrust to you this special request:

(Mention your request)

Saint Michael, since you are, by the Will of the Creator, the powerful intercessor of Christians, I have great confidence in your prayers.  I earnestly trust that if it is God’s holy will my petition will be granted.St_Michael_Raphael

Pray for me, Saint Michael, and also for those I love.  Protect us in all dangers of body and soul.  Help us in our daily needs.

Through your powerful intercession, may we live a holy life, die a happy death, and reach heaven where we may praise and love God with you forever.

Amen.

In thanksgiving to God for the graces bestowed on St. Michael: one Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory be.

The faithful who recite devoutly some prayers in honor of St. Michael with the intention of continuing the said prayers for nine consecutive days may gain: an indulgence of 5 years once each day; a plenary indulgence, under the usual conditions, at the end of their novena.

Beautiful! I am waiting to read your comments regarding the pope’s interview yesterday.

Uh, I posted a bit yesterday. That’s all I have to say for now.

Going to start this, we need it!

Tantam, I was wondering if you could speculate as to what you think will come of the meetings of the 8 cardinals, what do you think will change? It would be great for people like me who don’t pay enough attention or aren’t “in the know.”
Thanks

PS. I am also getting extremely tired of this pope’s remarks. I have several friends and a mom that I am trying to convert to the Church and every time they read something about the work I have to do damage control, and they just contract yet again. Converting is already a sensitive process, and this guy is making it worse for those of us who are actually trying to bring people to the Church.

If you see the link that Raul De La Garza left in another comment to a conservative site, you should go read that, especially towards the bottom, where a priest (whom I suspect Raul and I know very well, knowing Mr. Dreher’s closeness with this priest) laments how much more difficult the Pope is making the very hard work of catechesis and conversion with these statements. Just as we were starting to get some very slight momentum with a portion of Catholics accepting that contraception and abortion are gravely immoral and must be avoided, here comes the Pope saying “no biggie! Don’t ‘obsess’ over that!” I think saying we’re “sick” of the Pope’s commentary may be a bit strong, but I think there is great cause for concern, and, especially, prayer. The point is, souls are at stake, the reason why we stress these issues is because they are so huge and there is so little acceptance even by active Catholics of the Church’s belief on these matters. These comments really hurt.

I’m in the pro-life movement. I’m not as involved as I should be, but I’m fairly active. I know really good people who put their heart and soul into fighting abortion every day. How do they feel after reading comments like this! They are being told their focus, their “obsession” is wrong! And they are performing some of the greatest works of spiritual and corporal mercy possible!

It’s the same error as always with the post-VII crowd, the “either-or” Church. The Church is the great BOTH-AND – we can be both focus greatly on the evil of abortion, the greatest moral evil of our time, AND have great charity for souls. We can care for the poor AND counsel them on the evils of contraception. It doesn’t have to be either-or, but that is so much the dominant commentary we hear from so many Church leaders. It’s a huge, deflating mistake.

What do I think will come with the meeting of this advisory group of cardinals? Nothing good.
