Some people look on the cloistered religious life as something strange, even selfish.  How can they just “sit” inside those walls all day and “do nothing?!?”  What “good” do they do?  Shouldn’t they be out there in the world, helping people?  If they want to love God so much, shouldn’t they open a soup kitchen or something?  th3

If only the worldlings knew, cloistered religious, especially contemplative religious, do more to keep the world whole, stay God’s mighty Hand of Justice, and save souls than they can possibly imagine.  Much of the good that others do is the result of the solemn lives of prayerful abnegation that cloistered religious, like Carthusians and Carmelites, live.  Something for us to remember in a world grown hard and cold to faith:

O eternal Father, I offer You the Blood shed by Your Son with such deep love and ardent charity for the salvation of men.

O Jesus, I offer You the innumerable drops of Blood which You shed so freely at Your dreadful scrouging, and as You shed it for all Your members, so do I offer it to You for all the members, so do I offer it to You for all the members of Holy Church, whose Head You are. I offer It to You so that Your “Christs,” Your priests, may once again be the light of the world, that Your virgins may not be of the number of the foolish pazzivirgins, that infidels may return to your fold and that all souls may be saved.

O eternal Word, I want to speak to You as You did to us. In truth, I say to You that I would sacrifice a thousand lives, if I had them, to help save these souls. I do not want to depart from this life until You have enlightened some one of them. But I am not worthy to be heard. Hear not one who is so presumptuous, but answer You own Blood. You cannot fail Yourself; hear then, O Jesus, the voice of Your Blood.

O eternal Father, that love which moved You to create men, urges You also to infuse Your light into them. I well know that Youpazzi2 do infuse it, but they do not accept it. What is the reason for this? My ingratitude, I know, O my God, my ingratitude, but I have not plumbed its depths. Punish me for their offenses; punish me for their sins. Oh! how wretched I am to be the cause of so much ingratitude and wickedness.

If I could, I would take all men and lead them to the bosom of Your Holy Church, so that she could cleanse them of all their infidelities, regenerate them like a mother, and then nourish them with the sweet milk of the holy Sacraments.

Notes on purity in two parts October 3, 2013

One of the biggest challenges in this very sick, sex-obsessed culture is maintaining purity.  In fact, what once used to be somewhat more of a problem for men now afflicts men and women almost indiscriminately.  Almost as many women as men use porn and abuse themselves on a regular basis.  Rates of infidelity, fornication, and divorce have, of course, skyrocketed.  What used to be an occasional, shocking scandal, is now an everyday occurence in the lives of millions.

As Our Lady at Fatima said, more souls fall into hell over sins of impurity than over any other cause.  The children at Fatima saw souls falling into hell like snowflakes. Other Saints and Doctors have reported near-death experiences where they, and perhaps one or two other souls, FatimaPicturewere the only ones who did NOT go to hell on the particular day they died, or nearly died, seeing tens of thousands of others falling into hell. This is not just the fantastic writings of overactive imaginations. We are talking the solemn testimony of a great number of Saints, Blesseds, and others.

There has been a document circulating locally, that provides some helpful guidance regarding purity, how to maintain it, how to know when it is lost, and how to fix that situation if it is.   I post part 1 today, God willing, I will follow up tomorrow with part 2.  Everything that follows is quoted from that document, made by a local traditional priest:

Here’s the basic moral principle that applies to all questions of the 6th and 9th Commandments: all pleasure outside of marriage that is associated with the creative power, that is directly willed or desired, intentionally procured or permitted, is a MORTAL SIN. Therefore it is mortally sinful for the unmarried to think, say, or do anything with the intention of arousing even the smallest degree of this type of sensual pleasure.

If this pleasure has arisen, and there was NO INTENTION (the image popped into our mind’s eye, or we unsuspectingly walk around a corner and right before us there is someone immodestly dressed) – and there’s NO CONSENT (HEY! I don’t want to see that!) – it is not a sin.

If this pleaure has arisen, and there was NO INTENTION and some consent (we toy with it for a while, without fully giving ourself over to it) – it is a venial sin.primopiano2wd1

If this pleasure has arisen, and there was NO INTENTION, but there’s FULL CONSENT (Alright!  Check THAT out!) – it is a MORTAL SIN.

If there is direct intention (I AM going to click that website, I AM going to flip through that bad magazine) – it is a MORTAL SIN.

No intention, no consent, no sin.
No intention, some consent, venial sin.
No intention, full consent, mortal sin.
ANY direct intention, mortal sin.

What can we do to keep out of trouble in general and protect ourselves?  The Saints teach that we must be both watchful for, and flee from, occasions of these types of sins.

This means that we have to avoid bad websites, bad movies, bad TV, bad magazines and music, and especially BAD COMPANY.Our Lady of Victory.jpg

We must make good Confessions on a regular basis – if we’re having a struggle, that means weekly or even more often, if needs be – and then make good Holy Communions begging God for the Grace to conquer such sins.

We need to pray: most especially the Rosary and the 3 Hail Marys. These need to be a part of everyone’s daily prayer life. Our Lady was NOT bored in Heaven and wondering what was going on in Fatima when She came down and reminded us to say the Rosary every day. Say your Rosary every day……….and the 3 Hail Marys – for holiness and purity.  First thing when you wake up and last thing before you go to bed. And if you want to up the ante, just kneel on your fingers while you say them.  The Saints – like St. Anthony of Padua and St. Alphonsus – both Doctors of the Church – St. Leonard of Port Maurice and St. Anthony Marie Claret all emphasize that if someone is faithful to this practice through thick and thin, the Blessed Virgin will obtain for them the practice of purity.

Tomorrow, more on mortification and changing our interior life!

“Hand-picked ‘Christians'” trained to foist homosex errors on churches October 3, 2013

Oh, great.  These guys, they will not stop.  They cannot stand to have any voice left that condemns their depravity, as it reminds them of that Law God has written on their hearts. Via CA at Faithful Answers, a homosexual activist is trying to teach the “correct” interpretation of Sacred Scripture to say that depraved sexual acts, repeatedly condemned in Scripture, are actually embraced by Scripture – so long as they are “monomagous.”

Fifty hand-picked Christians were part of a seminal [Was the author trying to be ironic?] conference last week planned by Matthew Vines, a 23-year-old gay Christian who believes Scripture allows for monogamous homosexual activity, in an effort to spread the idea in the American church over the next decade.  [It would appear from the language chosen, the author of this report rather favors the idea.]

Vines says he has had success in convincing lay members of churches over the last year that monogamous homosexual activity is allowed by Scripture, but is encountering resistance from Scriptural scholars[Read that as, those who actually have some understanding of Scripture and are not infected with modernist revisionist look at his claims, and either laugh or sigh.]  He is likely to encounter much more, say theologians.

More than 100 people applied to participate in the four-day conference, though only 50 were accepted, and the chosen were required to rigorously study throughout the summer before the conference even began. Vines sent them 1,100 pages of dense, academic reading material, for example, to make sure they understood both sides of the issue before the event began last Wednesday[That would be 1100 pages of protestant private interpretation of Scripture, which could say who knows what.]

The goal of the conference was to be training Christians who are in churches that don’t currently support LGBT people and to give them the biblical tools and knowledge that they need to go back to their churches and have constructive, persuasive conversations with other believers on these issues,” Vines told CP.  [In short, to foment an insurrection in those churches or sects against whatever the pastor happens to preach, or the sect believes, if they have any authoritative doctrine, which most don’t.  I wonder if any Katholycs took part?  If those indoctrinated at this conference fail to get the response they desire, will they start another church or sect?]

Some conference participants do attend LGBT-affirming churches, Vines told CP, though those who do so have other ties to conservative Christians.

The event was held last week at Asbury United Methodist Church [I had a methodist commenter “correct” me, claiming that the UMC does not endorse homosexual simulation of marriage. Perhaps that may be the position of those in the national organization, but locally, I have seen a great deal of support from methodists for the homosexual agenda.]  in Prairie Village, Kan., and was hosted by The Reformation Project, an effort started by Vines to re-educate the church concerning gay activity.  [The “healthy gay lifestyle?”  Like rates of drug abuse, alcoholism, depression, suicide, joblessness, and especially venereal disease far in excess of any other population?] The Reformation Project is a “Bible-based, Christian non-profit organization that seeks to reform church teaching on sexual orientation and gender identity,” according to the group’s website.

Event participants, who are simply being called “Reformers,” [like their proud forebears, Luther, Calvin, Zwingli, etc!]  are required “to be willing to be a public, accessible, visible leader in their communities for the indefinite future going forward on these issues,” said Vines. Regardless of what each leaders’ strategy is for inspiring reform, the 23-year-old said it is important for them to be both “respectful and sensitive” when engaged in dialogue with others.

“Our primary goal is not to make the church pro-LGBT,” said Vines. “Our primary goal is to protect the integrity of the body of Christ as the witness to God’s love on earth.”  [by embracing sordid acts Christ Himself at least tacitly condemned?  By rejecting the constant, 3000+ year belief of Judeo-Christians and twisting Scripture to serve your own self-interest?  Yes, I can see how concerned  you are over the “integrity of the body (sic) of Christ.”]

Coming soon to a church near you?  You should count on it, and be ready to refute it.

Girl Scouts dying, can’t admit why October 3, 2013

I am sorry to say, I am actually somewhat heartened by this.  The Girl Scouts have lost almost 1/3 of their membership since 2003.  Many former Scouts and parents who refuse to put their children in this organization, which has so sadly lost its way, blame the radical feminist agenda Girl Scouts has embraced.  Since it is primarily traditional familes with a fairly strong religious ethos who put their children into scouting in the first place, embracing Planned Barrenhood’s warped agenda and other feminist shibolleths hasn’t exactly been a strong draw:

The steady decline in youth and adult participation in Girl Scouts is at least in part attributed to sex education decisions made by Girl Scout national leaders, according to Christians studying the trend and former Girl Scout local leaders who are Christians.

This week, Girl Scouts of the USA launched a campaign aimed at reversing the decline, featuring a video from First Lady Michelle Obama[The feminists now running the Girl Scouts really, really don’t get it. They think Michelle Obama is going to be a draw among their most likely customers?]  Christian leaders and former girl scouts explained possible reasons behind it, including increasing ties with abortion provider Planned Parenthood.

“The Girl Scouts for a long time have been promoting an agenda that is contrary to what they were 10, 15 years ago,” Janice Crouse, senior fellow at the Beverly LaHaye Institute, told The Christian Post in a Monday interview. Girl Scout policy on sexual morality, which focuses on self-discovery and protection rather than abstention, proves the main cause, Crouse argued. She also listed the trend of mothers going to work (therefore losing time to volunteer) and controversy about where funds are allocated from the famous Girl Scout cookie sales. Only 15% of profits go to local groups[And that is why I can’t buy your cookies. The vast majority of the sales (and these things are WAAAAAAAY overpriced) goes to the baker and the national (re: radical) organization.  If you buy Girl Scout cookies, it is inevitable that some of your money will find its way into Planned Barrenhood’s bloody, perverted hands.]

The Girl Scouts of the USA did not respond to requests for comment.

Addressing the morality shift, Crouse referred to a Girl Scout-sponsored 2010 publication by International Planned Parenthood Federation entitled “Healthy, Happy and Hot: A young people’s guide to rights,” which encourages young people with HIV to “take care of your sexual and reproductive health.” Crouse attacked materials like this for making “girls ripe to sex from the earliest age.” The scholar also pointed to a 2003 5th grader pamphlet called “Nobody’s Fool,” addressing sex education…..

……..”The Girl Scouts formerly embraced the Judeo-Christian values that Americans once grew up with – love of God, love of country, treating others fairly,” Crouse explained. “Now, Girl Scouts are more focused on indoctrinating girls on the so-called women’s rights agenda.”

And, incredibly, it seems a fundamental aspect of the “women’s rights agenda” is turning women into wanton hussies.  It is almost hilarious, if it weren’t so devastating, how a movement that ostensibly started out with the intent to “empower” women in a worldly way and prevent them from being sexually objectified, now has as its core message the glories of being a plaything for men.  Thus, “empowerment.”

No wonder parents don’t want any part of this for their daughters. I certainly do not.

I would be remiss if I did not reiterate the scandal of the ongoing relationship between the Girl Scouts and the Catholic Church in this country.  Many evangelical churches have cut ties with the Girl Scouts, when will the Church?

Whoa – Pope Benedict views action taken against FI’s as a “wound” against Summorum Pontificum October 3, 2013

So claims Sandro Magister, as reported by Rorate:

The ban imposed by pope Bergoglio on the congregation of the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate against celebrating the Mass in the ancient rite has been an effective restriction of that freedom of celebrating in this rite which Benedict XVI had guaranteed for all.
It emerges from conversations with his visitors that Ratzinger himself has seen in this restriction a “vulnus” on his 2007 motu proprio “Summorum Pontificum.”
In the interview with “La Civiltà Cattolica,” Francis dismissed the liberalization of the ancient rite decided by Benedict XVI as a simple “prudential decision motivated by the desire to help people who have this sensitivity,” when instead the intention made explicit by Ratzinger – expressed at the time in a letter to the bishops of the whole world – was that “the two forms of the usage of the Roman Rite can be mutually enriching.”
In the same interview, Francis defined the postconciliar liturgical reform as “a service to the people as a re-reading of the Gospel from a concrete historical situation.” A strongly reductive definition with respect to the vision of the liturgy that was proper to Ratzinger as theologian and pope.
Moreover, also in this field, Francis replaced en bloc last September 26 the five advisors of the office of papal liturgical celebrations.
Rorate then goes on to add some of their own thoughts, which mirror mine, stating that they have always felt that the injunction against the Franciscans of the Immaculate offering the TLM via Summorum Pontificum was a wound against that proclamation by Pope Benedict.  That some FI orders have received permission to offer the TLM does not really heal this wound, the very fact of having to seek permission is a re-reading of Summorum counter to Pope Benedict’s clearly expressed desires as expressed in both that original 2007 document, and Universae Ecclesiae released in 2011.
My only other comment for the moment is that statements like this, where a still living Pope seems to be at variance with the currently reigning one, were pretty much inevitable in our media saturated age. This is not the 10th or 11th century.  Today, people’s thoughts, especially high-profile ones, get leaked, and get reported worldwide almost instantly.  I also judged based on Pope Benedict’s history of interaction with the media, it would be unlikely that he would remain utterly silent for whatever years he has left with us.  I can easily imagine events developing where Pope Emeritus Benedict will feel compelled, in conscience, to speak out.  Won’t that be interesting.
So, the situation may develop, and what a mess this could be, where we have a beloved (by some – certainly I am generally in that camp) former Pope decrying (that is probably too strong a word) the actions of his successor. This was always one of the great dangers I saw in the essentially unheard of abdication, and one of the reasons that action by Pope Benedict filled me with dread.  Since it is becoming more and more apparent that Pope Francis intends to conduct his papacy in ways radically counter to his predecessor, there is the possibility that we will see very low-key, very tasteful criticisms from Pope Benedict directed at his successor. Should Pope Francis get really wild, as some of us fear, it is not impossible, and may be not improbable, that there will be all kinds of conspiracy theories gaining traction regarding Benedict’s abdication, especially if he is seen as being in opposition to his succesor. As I said, a mess.
But, as Rorate further notes, there will surely be a denial, so, believe what you want.
