DDLGs head will explode – Obama threatens priest-chaplains with arrest if they violate shutdown October 4, 2013

I don’t read conservative sites much anymore except for Ace O Spades, but Ace has been going to town on all the “shutdown theater” the Obama Administration is conducting to try to turn public opinion against the GOP in this government shutdown.  Things like the WWII Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, which used to be open 24/7 with no staff, are not closed by gates and have guards present where there were never any before.  They are trying to punish the GOP and its base for having the temerity to not continue to fund this nation into oblivion.  Even privately funded parks with some minor federal connection – like Colonial Williamsburg – are being shut down.  One Park Service employee of the now shuttered Mount Vernon (also privately funded) was informed they were to make this shutdown as painful as possible – he termed this tactic “disgusting.”

Part and parcel of shutting down popular but very low cost services is this: apparently, as part of the shutdown, the Obama Admin is threatening to ARREST and prosecute Catholic priests who are also military chaplains, if they try to serve the troops on military bases during the shutdown:

In a stunning development, some military priests are facing arrest if they celebrate mass or practice their faith on military bases during the federal government shutdown.

“With the government shutdown, many [government service] and contract priests who minister to Catholics on military bases worldwide are not permitted to work – not even to volunteer,” wrote John Schlageter, the general counsel for the Archdiocese for the Military Services USA, in an op-ed this week. “During the shutdown, it is illegal for them to minister on base and they risk being arrested if they attempt to do so.”

According to its website, the Archdiocese for the Military Services “provides the Catholic Church’s full range of pastoral ministries and spiritual services to those in the United States Armed Forces.”

In his piece, Schlageter worries about this restriction as Sunday nears. “If the government shutdown continues through the weekend, there will be no Catholic priest to celebrate Mass this Sunday in the chapels at some U.S. military installations where non-active-duty priests serve as government contractors,” he wrote.

The behavior of the Obama Administration in this “crisis” they entirely precipitated by refusing to negotiate has been positively sadistic. But that’s hardly surprising coming from the apotheosis of liberal radicalism, the veritable secular god of the left.

So, some Catholic soldiers are likely to have to do without Mass this weekend, all to help Obama improve his political position a bit.  I pray it backfires enormously on him.

Keep it up, madman in the White House. As a result, I pray more folks will wake up to the insanity running wild within Arkham…ahem…Washington, D.C. and realize that they do not need the federal system. With more actions like these being taken by our federal overlords, nationalist movements will continue to spread like a prairie fire across the Union. At least, this is my hope for the true change I wish to see.

Actually, I think this kind of thing works to our devolutionary ends. The more people see how ridiculously broken things are, and how unrepairable they are, the more they will start to look for other alternatives. I need to start trying to prepare a case for devolution to the state level.

What are your thoughts on Texas annexing adjacent territory to build up what might be a more viable nation state?

Pardon me for butting in, but if Texas did that, I’d move there.

Is there a part of Texas that has actual four seasons? I couldn’t take heat twelve months of the year.

tantamergo - October 4, 2013

The panhandle is pretty temperate. They actually get some winter, and summers are not near so bad.

That’s an interesting question worth exploring. Though I’d prefer that she maintain her distinctive shape I am believing more daily that to further subdivide might be our best option due to the insanity within our own borders concentrated primarily within our larger population centers. Ideally Texans should come to reclaim their more independent spirit and unite under the same banner, however, if this cannot be realistically achieved further subdivsion may be the solution, cf. Ukraine, West Virginia, etc. Not calling for another CSA. Modern Texas can take care of itself. We have the 12th largest economy in the world and we send roughly 300 billion dollars to DC every year. Let us separate and keep that tax money and put it to better use within our own state border to help out, first and foremost, the people of Texas. Goodbye NSA, IRS, EPA, NEA, HUD, Federal Reserve, Roe v. Wade, etc., etc. Ad infinitum…

The local diocesan priest who contracted to serve my duty station had his contract not renewed during the last round of furloughs this past spring. Honestly, I was the only active duty guy who attended Mass anyways; all the others were civilian employees. I don’t think the majority of the younger people in the military care – they are too busy drinking and fornicating their weekends and liberty away (I know, I used to be one of them), and doing sexual assault/diversity/equal opportunity/SSM acceptance & benefit training during the work day.

As a Naval Academy grad, it’s sad-funny that people are more concerned that the football game goes on at all costs while religious and spiritual needs are ignored. I’m not watching the game tomorrow and will be spending valuable time with my wife and son instead.

Many government employees are still working like me. Yes, I work for the VA (mea culpa) and VA medical centers are open. Only restrictions are no travel for training and authorized absence. As far as the contract priests – why can’t Catholic military just go to Mass at the closed church. At Fort Hood, they can just go to Mass in Killeen. Maybe some bases are far from a city.
