Weekend reading – Is leftism drivEN by secret racism?

A blogger named Zombie has written a long post at Pajamas Media arguing that leftism – at least in the United States – is driven by a secret racism towards black.  He uses various current leftist agendas to attempt to prove this.  I found many of the arguments (white liberals want to ban plastic bags because blacks litter?  What?) pretty thin.  But I do think he’s on the right track, in a sense.  But he misses a very large number of points, especially the fact that left wing types behave identically in countries even where there is no substantial black population.  And that leftists have been behaving exactly as they do now, going back centuries, to times and places where there were simply no blacks present at all to drive this guilt-ridden agenda.

I do think there are aspects of the leftist agenda that are overtly racist.  He cites abortion to buttress his arguments, and the eugenic basis for the drive to legalize abortion in this country is too obvious to ignore.  But I think he misses the broader driver in assigning racism as the cause.  The broader driver is elitism.  This is an elitism that says that people are too dumb to control their own actions, too animalistic to practice virtue, and thus the state must sharply curb people’s freedoms in order to prevent them from making “wrong” (leftist disapproved) choices.  That’s one major overt driver.

I have read Zombie before in the past, and I don’t think he’s particularly religious/Christian. I think that’s why he misses another major driver in left wing agitation, which is based in a deep-seeded animosity towards religion.

Anyway, it’s food for thought, and I am out of time, so read and discuss, if you want.  Or pray, that would probably be a better use of our collective time.
