……truly reveals the banality of our times.  Given that many of those who are now so lamenting the death of this Hollywood star Williams, and who could not be bothered in the least to spare a concern for the suffering of millions of Christians in the Mideast, call themselves Christian, we see the emptiness that pervades so many souls.  From commenter Steve, who in a later comment bent over backwards to insure that he does not bear Robin Williams any ill will and prays for the repose of his soul, some very insightful thoughts (I add some comments of my own):

May a certain Hollywood celebrity rest in peace.

I referenced that to call attention to the following:

If you are an Iraqi Catholic persecuted to the hilt and on the run from maniacs who at least rival (and may even surpass) the viciousness of the Nazis and Imperial Japanese, do not expect many people to cry for you. [And if you are an Iraqi Catholic who worked with the US presence in Iraq for a number of years, and now seek asylum as someone on the run in fear of his life, don’t expect the US to hustle to help you out. Expect to be ignored, just as we left the many South Vietnamese who worked with the US during our intervention there, only to be left in the lurch when we got tired of that conflict.  Many of those Vietnamese “only” had to serve time in reeducation camps and many were later able to emigrate to the United States (and what immigrants they have been!), but Iraqi Christians can expect their entire family to be beheaded, or perhaps see their daughters passed into sexual slavery for these amoral cretins.  The lesson is, never trust the US government, I guess.  We tend to coddle our enemies and betray our friends.]

Conversely, America’s news media and countless Americans will not only cry for but grind their lives to a halt to focus their attention upon a suicidal Hollywood celebrity (I wish him peace) who trafficked in dirty comedy and attacked the Holy Catholic Church as “Christians” in his audiences roared with laughter.  [He certainly did do that.  He had a penchant for attacking the Church.  I pray he received some amazing conversion in the last milliseconds of his life, even as he took it himself.  As for the Christians who laughed at his jokes, mocking Holy Mother Church, I pray for their conversion]

Countless folks will parade about in public to express their appreciation for said person’s raunchy, dirty antics.

They will leave teddy bears and tie balloons to objects to pay tribute to said celebrity. [This has always driven me a little nuts.  I remember when Princess Diana died and just the orgiastic outpouring of grief.  It is a strange culture that grieves for those who knew nothing but the ultimate in comfort and wealth, and ignore those among them who suffer so much]

The news media will devote around-the-clock coverage to said person.

In light of the above unsettling reality and in absence of a miracle, what realistic human hope exists for Iraqi Catholics? [Not much.  Maybe the best argument against US involvement is that we’ll somehow manage to make things worse, as we did when we invaded Iraq in the first place.  I do understand Europe is moving to act, which means we should see a massive commitment of at least an unarmed platoon of Dutch military police, or somesuch.]

The message is clear: The life and demise of a person (requiescat in pace) who did not hesitate to deliver raunchy, filthy “entertainment” to America and the world is of greater interest to countless folks than the genocide of Iraqi Catholics.

Dang straight. But they’re so very far away, don’t you see!  They’re foreigners with strange names and a funny language!  They’re not quite human.  Not like good left wing Hollywood stars.  Those are “real” human beings.

Is that last bit not part of it?  Because of TV and films, do not many people put media stars on some kind of higher plane of existence than the rest of us?  And is that not a big reason why we have such a sick culture of celebrity seeking, with people willing to abandon any moral restraint and have themselves objectified, even as idiots, in order to garner a few minutes fame?

Meanwhile, more and more souls continue to suffer and are all but ignored.  Our own president has made clear he is almost completely unmoved by their plight.  And so the wheel turns.  Shoot your TV, if you haven’t already.  The sooner this cult of celebrity ends, the better.

Reader MFG wrote in with a timely announcement that, after literally decades of delay, there is now a Spanish-Latin Missal DAILY Missal available for the Traditional Mass (1962).  It is available from Angelus Press.  MFG received a copy and says it looks good. I agree.  Some important news from Angelus – the Missals are steeply discounted at an introductory price:

Our much-anticipated Spanish Missals are finally here!

For a limited time only, while supplies last, we are offering our Spanish Daily Missals at over a 30% discount! These missals are beautifully bound, made to last for generations to come; but may contain slight cosmetic imperfections that most people won’t even notice. The printer gave them to us at a discount and we are passing that discount on to you, our valued customers.

We expect to sell through this batch quickly, so act now to get your heavily discounted missal while supplies still last. Our missals normally retail at $65.95 but for a limited time you can get the same quality missal with a few slight cosmetic imperfections for only $45.95. Get your copies TODAY!

Some photos MFG included of the Missal he bought recently:

I know there are Missals available for the common parts of the Mass, and  you can print out or read from your smart phone Spanish propers, but it’s really nice to have everything in one place.  Angelus Missals are high quality, thorough, and generally error-free.  At this price, in particular, I’d recommend getting one or several for any family that needs a Spanish translation. Or, it might be nice to buy some for your local TLM parish.

I have to say, lack of Spanish-speaking priests and even Missals is a handicap in encouraging many Hispanics to assist at the TLM or get involved in a TLM parish.  We are blessed in our local Fraternity parish to have a Spanish speaking priest for Confessions in particular, but there are so few around.  Anything that helps open up the TLM to more souls I am very on board with.  I think Fr. Carota’s experience shows how having a Spanish-speaking traditional priest can really benefit many souls!

There is a Spanish bookstore also offering the Angelus Missal.

Dominus vobiscum!  Thanks MFG!

Invoke Saint Clare for the defense of Christians! August 13, 2014

As good Father Peter Carota notes, on two separate occasions St. Clare of Assisi, foundress of the feminine branch of the Franciscans, stopped download (4)armies through her intervention.  What Fr. Carota does not note, is that in the first case, the army of Frederick II seeking to sack Assisi was made up largely of muslim, or saracen, mercenaries.  Such a great affront against Christendom, to use the infidel dogs against his religious brethren. But then again, Frederick II was always a haughty atheist apostate (a prototype of the modern sexular pagan left, which is why he is so beloved by them) and was excommunicate at the time:

One of the greatest miracles know about St. Clare was when the army of Frederick II, in 1234, began to invade Assisi and even had ladders up to the windows of the sisters convent.  The whole community was in great fear.   But St. Clare, calmly rose from her sick bed, took the ciborium from the chapel, and proceeded to face the invaders through an open window.  As she raised up the Blessed Sacrament, the soldiers, who were about to enter their monastery, became confused like and left the sisters and Assisi alone.

Again, later on, General Vitale di Aversa began another offensive against Assisi.  St.Clare gathered her community around her and they knelt in prayer that Assisi might be spared. Instantly, a powerful storm arose that tore up and scattered all the soldiers tents.  They began to panic and quickly departed in great fear.  The people of Assisi knew that it was St. Clare, and her sisters prayers, that had saved them again.

As St. Francis had the joy of seeing his order spread all over Europe, St. Clare also was able to see many Poor Clare convents open up all over Europe in her own lifetime…..

Father Carota also notes some similarities between Saint Clare and traditional Catholics:

St. Clare had two very important goals in her life.  It “was to bring about a restoration of discipline in the Church, and of morals and civilization in the peoples of Western Europe”  These two goals are also what we traditional Catholics have in common with her.  We want to see:

1) The restoring of the Catholic Church back to Jesus’ Biblical teachings.

2)  Return to the 2000 year old Catholic Traditions.

3) Return of the sacred Catholic Rites, like the Latin Mass and all other Latin Sacraments.

4) The use of the traditional blessings of Holy Water and other sacred objects.

5) Society subjected to Jesus’ Rule and Laws.

6) The restitution of the indissolubility of the Sacrament of Marriage, (only between a man and a woman).

But I’d really like to see some Iraqi daughter of Clare stop the islamic hordes with a brave display of the Blessed Sacrament!  And Clare was deathly483px-HeiligenkreuzStClare ill at the time!

Yesterday was of course that great Saint’s Feast day. Speaking of lost ars traditionis, check out how Bishop Hugolin of Ostia addressed her in a letter:

To his very dear Sister in Jesus Christ , to his mother the Lady Clare, handmaid of Christ, Hugolin of Ostia, unworthy bishop and sinner.  Ever since the hour when I had to deprive myself of your holy conversation, to snatch myself from that heavenly joy, such bitterness of heart causes my tears to flow, that if I did not find at the feet of Jesus the consolation which His love never refuses, my mind would fail and my soul would melt away.  Where is the glorious joy of that Easter spent in your company and that of the other handmaids of Christ?  I knoew that i was a sinner; but at the remembrance of your supereminent virtue, my misery overpowers me, and I believe myself unworthy ever to enjoy again that converation of the Saints, unless your tears and prayers obtain pardon for my sins.  I put my souls, then, into your hands; to you I entrust my mind, that you may answer for me on the day of judgment……..

————End Quote————

Would that we had frequent witness to such holy and edifying correspondence from our bishops today!  What complete focus on Christ, what acknowledgement of our unworthiness, what great example of humility and piety!  Oh Lord, give us such men as Hugolin of Ostia again!  And we pray raise up great Saints like Clare of Assisi to give us great example of purity, holiness, piety, strength, and succor in these times of trial!  May Saint Clare intercede for persecuted Catholics everywhere, but especially in the Mideast, and use her great intercessory power to stop the terrible sufferings, and make those sufferings endured thus efficacious of great Grace!

May all the souls lost in this horrible persecution be saved through their martyrdom and Saint Clare’s intercession!

Lord please let it stop – cataloging a few ISIS atrocities August 13, 2014

Some of the photos below have appeared on a few Catholic sites.  But I felt they should be made available in order to catalog the depths of the evil we as Catholics are dealing with in the ongoing effort to depopulate the entire Mideast (eventually, you know it is coming to that) of Christians.  Some may disagree with posting these.  Some will appreciate it.  For others, it may be old news.

Please Lord let someone stop this evil.  I don’t know if there is anyone else with the ability and the will to do so. Most European nations can’t even deploy a battalion for more than token “peacekeeping.”  I still don’t favor US boots on the ground, but when I see the below, I have no problem arming the Kurds and Christians to the teeth and giving them air support and intelligence.

Pictures below are a mix from Iraq and Syria.  Of course I am equally concerned with what happens to Christians in both countries, and in other countries, as well as the other persecuted peoples, which is basically everyone save for the most insanely jihadist radical wahhabists.  The most backwards, idiotic, demonic, tribal bedoin form of islam from the depths of the Arabian peninsula is rapidly becoming the “elite” form of islam.  Amazing.

Maybe an answer is to bomb the Saudi and Qatari oil terminals.  They are ultimately behind all this with their $$. Pics are thumbnails for obvious reasons.  It was the last two that ripped my gut out.

In the last, that is ostensibly the girl’s father.  What crime could a 2 year old possibly commit to deserve beheading?  Not being a wahhabist muslim.  Now we know why the Spanish, in the Reconquista, called them infidel dogs.

There are other, even worse photos (and videos) out there.  All from the past year or two.  And these crimes are also frequently perpetrated within wahabbist regions themselves, against their own people – typically women and girls.  Genital mutilation, dousing faces with acid, poking out eyes, cutting off noses, ears, and tongues, sometimes all at the same time, are frequently enacted as revenge by muslim “men” upon their women due to some perceived slight.

I made a mistake recently, saying that these atrocities are unprecedented. It would be nice to be able to say that, but that would be untrue.  As a matter of fact, from the muslim genocide against the Armenians in 1915 to the anti-Christian pogroms in Nigeria, Sudan, and all over the Mideast, muslim persecution of Christians has been a constant fact of Christian existence in the Mideast from the inception of this wicked and perverse religion.  Islam is the antithesis of Christianity, it is cruelty and bloodshed and lust and perversity and backwardness all rolled up in one.  And yet somehow, we are called to forgive these people.  Not an easy task.

This is a scourge that must be stopped.  Lord, grant peace and your sanctifying Grace to the victims of this hellish persecution.  Lord, grant unity and strength to Your Church, and especially to those entrusted with those high offices of such great import.  Lord, guide the afflicted souls through this nightmare with Your constant aid and Grace.  And give wisdom, prudence, and strength of  conviction to the secular world’s leaders to deal with this existential threat to all that is good and holy in a decisive way.

I would opine that any single one of those photos above would be sufficient to immediately terminate all “dialogue” with this religion until it begins to exercise at least a little bit of self-discipline.  From what the world can tell, the radicals are utterly in charge and any “moderate” muslims are either too cowed or too ineffectual to do anything to even slightly hinder them, let alone stop these barbarities.
