Porn/perversion convention coming to Dallas – what should we do? July 30, 2015

For the first time, the eXXXotica porn/perversion “convention” is coming to Dallas.  Held a few times a year around the country, this panoply of hedonism features 150 porn “stars,” hundreds of booths hawking all manner of products dedicated towards personal gratification, and a general aura of debauchery.  It will be held next week, Aug. 7-9 2015 at the city-owned Dallas Convention Center.  Beyond near-occasion of sin billboards have popped up around the area, dismaying many.  This expo of hedonism has been planned, apparently, for months.

Local feminists are not pleased.  While feminism is a highly disordered ideology, especially in its extreme forms, some fair points are raised below by one local feminist.  The question is, will they be the only ones to protest this event?

The EXXXotica Convention is headed to Dallas and our Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center next month “to bring over 150 adult industry stars as well as hundreds of exhibitors” promoting the sex trade.

New Friends New Life has a mission to restore and empower formerly trafficked teen girls and sexual exploited women and their children. We are among the nonprofits working to show the connection between the fight against human trafficking and the very vehicle that drives the demand for young, vulnerable children.

Why would the City of Dallas encourage conventions that propel and advertise the gateway and root cause of sex trafficking? [Indeed, this “expo” is sponsored by online escort services and porn companies.  There is a close connection between prostitution and human trafficking.]

Every 26 seconds, a child is sold. Men who prostitute women and traffic children are twice as likely to view pornography. Every second, 28,258 pornographic images are viewed online, creating an insatiable appetite to purchase sex on sites such as backpage.com, and online escort services that are sponsoring this convention……..

……….Trafficking victims are groomed through pornography. They are trained and then trafficked. Ninety percent of exploited women have been sexually abused. Eighty-six percent of victims have been forced to watch and imitate pornographic images and were involved and taught the sex trade through porn. The Trafficking Victim Protection Actmakes it clear that the majority of those involved in pornography have been coerced, forced and defrauded, and many of them are children. That is not about free speech. This is about sex trafficking. This is about the buying and selling of children in our city.

Whether explicitly or implicitly, the City of Dallas by hosting this convention is facilitating the coercion of the vulnerable and, ultimately, the violence they will endure. We know that traffickers have been preparing for next weekend. They have been recruiting from the nearly 400 kids who are trafficked every night in Dallas. They have been getting “their girls” in line, and when the convention comes, these girls will be bought and sold. It will not be their choice. It will end up being their sentence.

So, boys, we have a prayer vigil scheduled next week, August 5, at 8 pm outside The Men’s Club.  Who is up for joining me in praying outside the Dallas Convention Center on Friday or Saturday night?  It seems this nightmare starts at 5pm.  So maybe 8, again?  Which night would work better for you, Friday or Saturday?  Unbelievably, this exercise in self-will against God also takes place on Sunday, but I’m not going to impact my Sunday by praying outside there.

So………I’m not just real high on doing this.  I think it would be good and valuable, but there are some substantial down-sides.  For one thing, Dallas Convention Center is huge and the crowd is likely to be large.  It would be difficult to make an impact.  Parking may be a hassle, as would be meeting up with each other. I’d pretty much have to drive around there and ID a place where I think we could meet, unless one of you knows the area well and could make a suggestion.  And, I would like to have pretty good assurance we’d have a sizable crowd, a dozen minimum, if this effort were to be worthwhile.  Let me know your thoughts. Because I know some of you have concerns over commenting online, you can contact me directly if you want: larryr103@gmail.com

If there is interest and the logistics can be worked out I think it would be a very good evil to stand against.  Let’s see what we can come up with.  It would be a great way to get that “smell of the sheep,” as well as opposing the human trafficking that was such a focal point of the recent papal encyclical.  Why, it would almost atone for my neo-Pelagian Promethean bead counting!

A final thought: here we are in a city that has been, one might say, divinely warned through a series of unusual seismic events.  And yet here they go, thumbing their nose at God again and saying “non serviam.”  Ultimately, this will not end well, unless there be a great change of hearts.  Dallas purports itself to be a conservative mecca (used to be but it ain’t, anymore) in a conservative state, but it is also known worldwide for the number and “quality” of its sexually oriented businesses.  This is a dichotomy that should not stand.

And yet, I haven’t heard any denunciations from 3725 Blackburn St, have you?

You are contending with the demons, the “world rulers of this present darkness” [Eph 6]. I would suggest exorcism prayers at this place. Hopefully you can have a priest or bishop be there. A month or so before the last abortion business closed in Corpus Christi TX, Bishop Gracida performed a public exorcism at the location. A month later it shut down. Take St Benedict medals, they include an abbreviation of the Vade retro satana [the “Step, back, Satan”] exorcism prayer. Tell Satan to drink the poison himself. Guy McClung, San Antonio

Reverse St Benedict medal:: In the arms of the Cross are the initials C S S M L – N D S M D, which stand for the rhyme:

Crux sacra sit mihi lux!
Nunquam draco sit mihi dux!

English:
The Holy Cross be my light;
Let not the dragon be my guide.

In the corners of the Cross are C S P D, which stand for the same words found on the front over the pedestals: Crux s. patris Benedicti (The Cross of our Holy Father Benedict).

Above the Cross is the word “Pax” (Peace), the Benedictine motto.

Surrounding the entire back of the medal are the initials to the words of the exorcism: V R S N S M V – S M Q L I V B, which stand for the rhyme:

Vade retro Satana!
Nunquam suade mihi vana!
Sunt mala quae libas.
Ipse venena bibas!

English:
Begone, Satan,
Do not suggest to me thy vanities!
Evil are the things thou profferest,
Drink thou thy own poison!

I’d not worry. Your bishop will speak out against this and muster the moral force of his faithful Catholics to put a stop to it.

I assume you are holding your breath, as I am.

Doc Outa the Box - July 30, 2015

Uh, we assume he was. We entered his office just in time to find him blue on the floor. Unfortunately, he should recover.

I’m up for protesting this evil in our city. One more possible concern, however: the billboards are bad enough, but the appearance of people in the area of that event will surely be even more scandalous: Possible near occasions of sin all over. We’ll need all of our armor and air power.

Tantumblogo - July 30, 2015

Good point. Very good. We haven’t had any trouble outside the strip joint with that, but I can see it being a BIG problem at this sexpo.

My sister (Protestant) is awaiting details on a possible prayer group which may be forming onsite to resist this. Even if it’s Protestant, we could join with them and have a visible resistance present.

To agree with your point, I think only a large presence would be the most fruitful. It could cause unnecessary scandal if one or two of us is there alone as people may get the misperception that we are participants and not there to protest.

Just my thought for whatever it’s worth.

Tantumblogo - July 30, 2015

Please let me know anything you find out. I would certainly be willing to join with that effort if it materializes.

skeinster - July 30, 2015

If there isn’t going to be a visible protest, for whatever reason, we could still assign ourselves some hours in front of the Blessed Sacrament in reparation.

6. Call on 14 Holy Helpers for important spiritual needs!…… | A Blog for Dallas Area Catholics - August 3, 2015

This convention sounds worse than the Adult Video trade show that is held annually in Las Vegas.

The convention center must just be looking to make a dollar – why didn’t they turn down this group?

Tantumblogo - August 3, 2015

There was some garbage about “first amendment protected speech,” one of the most diabolical abuses of the Constitution introduced by leftist judges in the past 50 years. They pretend that porn is somehow “free speech” and thus protected, even though decades of prior jurisprudence determined otherwise. The real reason: they like them some porn.

8. Lucy - August 5, 2015

Wait wait… there’s a porn convention coming to Dallas? Time for me to register and look at some naked women!!

Tantumblogo - August 6, 2015

Whatever. Some of us have been there and done that and recognized the futility and banality of it all.
