This is an interesting report from a retired CIA employee.  It seems Russian warplanes have behaved very aggressively over Syria, and have cowed the US into abandoning operations over most if not all of the country.  They have also been pretty heavy handed with others.  I would say this could get ugly in a hurry, if we didn’t have such a whimpering, self-soiling ninny as Commander in Chief.  There is almost nothing the Russians could do that he wouldn’t acquiesce to with a pathetic shudder:

From the earliest days of the Syrian conflict, the U.S. and its so-called “coalition partners” have debated creation of a no-fly zone over that war-torn country.  Years of discussions and trial balloons have led to…nothing.

Now, barely a week after his warplanes began combat missions over Syria, Russian President Vladimir Putin appears to be on the verge of creating–you guessed it–a no-fly zone.  Russian jets have become increasingly aggressive as they patrol the country’s skies, conduct bombing missions against forces opposing their ally, Syrian dictator Bashir Assad, and even intrude into the airspace of neighboring Turkey.

Officially, the Russians have only a handful of air-to-air capable jets at their base near Latakia, on the Mediterranean coast, but those six SU-30 Fullbacks have been busy.  By various accounts, they chased away a four-ship formation of Israeli F-15s over Latakia, and entered Turkey’s airspace as well, locking onto a Turkish F-16 for a reported five minutes (emphasis ours).  Readers will note these claims have not been verified and read more like Russian propaganda than reliable reporting:

Six Russian fighter jets type Multirole Sukhoi SU – 30 SM have intercepted 4 Israeli McDonnell Douglas F-15’s fighter bombers attempting to infiltrate the Syrian coast. The Israeli F 15 warplanes have been flying over Syrian airspace for months and in particular the coast of Latakia, which is now the bridgehead of the Russian forces in Syria.

The Israeli jets would generally follow a fairly complex flight plan and approach Latakia from the sea.
On the night of 1 October 02, 2015, six Sukhoi SU-30 Russian SM fighters took off from the Syrian Hmimim airbase in the direction of Cyprus, before changing course and intercepting the four Israeli F-15 fighters off the coast of Syria, that were flying in attack formation……….. [The Russians have been seriously embarrassed since the end of the Cold War to see their kit routinely embarrassed by much, much better Western equipment. This has seriously hurt international sales upon which Russia depends to fund much new hardware development, as well as hurting their pride. As a result, the Russians have developed a strangely bombastic attitude regarding their military equipment and performance, frequently greatly exaggerating capabilities or treating simple instances of two groups of aircraft flying near each other in international airspace as a humiliating defeat for the other side.  This thing stinks of BS to me, for all we know, the Israelis were there precisely to gauge Russian reactions.  Satellite photos show only 6 Su-30 fighters deployed to Syria……would they really launch ALL of them on such a routine intercept mission?]

……..U.S. authorities report that Russian fighters–perhaps the same SU-30s–intercepted Predator drones over Syria on several occasions last week.  More from Fox News:

Russian fighter jets shadowed U.S. predator drones on at least three separate occasions high above Syria since the start of Russia’s air campaign last week, according to two U.S. officials briefed on this latest intelligence from the region. [I also don’t know about this.  Maybe, but Predators only fly at about 100 kts, way below stall speed for an Su-30, so any “shadowing” would consist of maybe some passes over the Predator in the same general vicinity.  If an Su-30 tried to fly alongside a Predator it would fall out of the sky]

……..Meanwhile, NATO is still smarting from that recent intercept of Turkish F-16s inside that country’s airspace by Russian-made MiG-29 Fulcrums, probably operated by the Syrian Air Force.  According to multiple reports, the Fulcrums “locked up” an F-16 for more than five minutes with its air intercept radar.  That account suggests that the Turkish jets were turning away from the threat as the MiG-29s gave chase.  Locking onto another aircraft with a fighter’s AI radar is considered an act of war. [It can be. This length of time is extremely unusual.  I wonder at the circumstances]  It is virtually unheard of for a warplane to maintain radar lock for that length of time.  Ask a fighter pilot to describe someone who is locked on for that long, and he (or she) will probably use one word: dead.  But the MiG-29s did not open fire, though the incident has further exacerbated tensions in the region.

These episodes are anything but a coincidence.  Putin is clearly spoiling for a fight, hoping to create an incident that would cause the U.S. and its allies to cease operations over Syria, while highlighting the capabilities of his own forces.  At this juncture, the Russians seem to have free reign in the skies; earlier today, a Pentagon spokesman announced that U.S. aircraft were rerouted in Syrian airspace, to avoid a nearby formation of Russian jets.

And there’s one more element that Moscow may use to reinforce a potential no-fly zone.  Eleven days ago, Russian TV released video of the cruiserMoskva leaving its Black Sea port, enroute to the Mediterranean, and most likely, a port call at the naval base in Tartus.  The Moskva carries the SA-N-6, the naval version of the SA-10 surface-to-air missile system.  [Widely regarded as an extremely effective air defense system]

From positions in port or off the Syrian coast, the Moskva could engage targets at ranges up to 200 miles, [Not with SA-N-6 they couldn’t.  More like 80 miles] covering a good portion of southwestern Turkey, western Syria, all of Lebanon and northern Israel.  How will the U.S. or Israel respond when the Moskva locks up one of our aircraft, or shoots down a drone?  We may soon find out.

The Russians have also started using their Tomahawk equivalent (actually, it’s a lot better) cruise missile from ships against ground targets.  They appear to be pretty serious.

BTW, the Russians are hitting pretty much everyone – ISIS, Al Queada, and the “good guy” supposedly secular Western friendly forces. Meanwhile the Latin Patriarch for Syria has said that Assad is the best hope for Christians in the country and supports Russian intervention, continuing to regard the entire civil war as US-generated.

Remember the day, not too long ago, when employment by the government was generally low paid but most typically seen as undemanding and very secure (certainly, there are exceptions).  Well, the latter is still by and large correct, but for the former……..federal government employees now earn almost TWICE as much annually in pay and benefits than their private industry counterparts:

Employees for the federal government earn far more than their counterparts in the private sector, according to a new study by the Cato Institute.

Federal workers’ pay and benefits were 78 percent higher than private employees, who earned an average of $52,688 less than public sector workers last year.

The study found that federal government workers earned an average of $84,153 in 2014, compared to the private sector’s average of $56,350. Cato based its findings on figures from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA). [And while private sector wages have been stagnant for over 40 years, federal wages have more than doubled during that period]

But when adding in benefits pay for federal workers, the difference becomes more dramatic. Federal employees made $119,934 in total compensation last year, while private sector workers earned $67,246, a difference of over $52,000, or 78 percent.

“Since the 1990s, federal workers have enjoyed faster compensation growth than private-sector workers,” according to the study, written by Chris Edwards, the director of tax policy studies at Cato. “In 2014 federal workers earned 78 percent more, on average, than private-sector workers. Federal workers earned 43 percent more, on average, than state and local government workers.

“The federal government has become an elite island of secure and high-paid employment, separated from the ocean of average Americans competing in the economy,” the Edwards wrote.

The report noted that 2.1 million people work for the federal government, costing over $260 billion in wages and benefits this year.

Wow.  Looks like I chose the wrong career.  Note that state and local government employees now out-earn private sector employees, as well, by about 1/3.  Plus there are lifetime pensions and extremely generous health insurance and vacation packages, too.

As I said in the previous post, whenever the Left says something, the opposite is true.  This is so often the case as to almost be a concrete law of modern discourse.  Most reasonably well-informed readers will surely be aware of the “1 in 5 college coeds experiences ‘sexual assault’ while on campus” myth.  This myth has already been exploded – the real data shows that far less than 1% of female college students ever experiences sexual assault, even when defined down to include things like unwanted touching, and that these students are 2/3 less likely to experience genuine rape than women of the same age in the general population.

So where did this myth come from? Well, given that the Obama administration has ginned up a wicked persecution of men on college campuses, requiring colleges, to keep their federal funding, to actively persecute men off campus under the most specious of charges from women, it now turns out that at least 1 in 5 campus rape reports are so false they are completely dropped before any heavily biased proceedings against the male student can begin:

To take a page from alarmist writers who gleefully post headlines claiming that one-in-five women are sexually assaulted in college, I bring you some information that will be either ignored or severely downplayed.

It turns out the “one-in-five number” is correct, but it’s not the one-in-five the media are reporting. Harvard University released its sexual assault statistics as part of federal regulations, and it turns out 18.1 percent of reported rapes on campus are “unfounded,” defined by Harvard police as “any report of a crime that is found to be false or baseless.”

Yes it’s just one narrow report, but given how many young men (nearly 100) are now suing colleges and universities that attempted to ruin their lives through extra-judicial proceedings that kicked them off campus for alleged “rape” (cases that never merited enough evidence to go to actual criminal trial), and, even more, blackened their ‘permanent records’ with these usually baseless accusations making resuming their college education elsewhere impossible, this is obviously not a small problem. It’s so severe it would almost seem to argue for a return to the old no sex before marriage standard………but no, that’s obviously too ridiculous and extreme.  Better to pay out a few score multi-million dollar lawsuits than change the present day environment on college campuses where such immoral, fruitless, and destructive couplings are positively encouraged by virtually colleges.

My kids will be living at home, thank you very much.

Yeah, Christians need to exit the US military now October 9, 2015

Apropos of the decisions at least a few readers have been struggling with, the US Navy is now indoctrinating sailors against the horrors of “male privilege,” including, get this, the evils of driving a large truck.  7 years of Obama has turned the US military – already problematic when he entered office – into an effeminate tool of left wing agitprop and anti-Christian harangues:

The US Navy’s Bureau of Medicine & Surgery is now teaching its members about the dangers of “male privilege,” giving examples of ways that men use such privilege to get what they want.

The document outlining “male privilege” can be found on the US Navy’s Bureau of Medicine & Surgery’s official page and was first reported by the Social Memo.

It details, “common phrases victims use when describing their abuse,” which includes “male privilege.”

Here is one of the statements that “victims” of male privilege included by the Navy:

“When he came home yesterday, he was driving a brand new truck. I told him we needed something the whole family could fit in, but he didn’t
listen to me.”

In other sections of the handout, abusive relationships are talked about. However, the document makes certain to only portray men as abusers:

Navy Wheel of Power

A couple of things: anyone who has spent any time around women know that while they perhaps (on average) lack the physical strength and aggressiveness of men, they have their own ways of manipulating and even abusing others, including their husbands/male partners.

Secondly, who, besides women’s grievance studies majors, uses terms like “male privilege?”  Or maybe their teaching that in public schools these days.

Thirdly, how does any of this help the military perform its mission of defending this country?

Fourthly, I saw a video recently showing sort of an “idyllic” single mom member of the Air Force (with children by two different fathers).  That woman was at least 70 lbs overweight.   Look, that’s her deal and couldn’t care less in general terms, but aren’t members of the military supposed to be somewhat strong and fit?  There is simply ZERO chance that woman could do a single pull-up or more than a handful of pushups, let alone something useful, like, I don’t know, lifting a 200 lb Sidewinder onto the launch rail of a jet.  Yeah, there are a lot of desk jobs in the military, and there’s an increasing number of unfit male servicemembers, too, but what happens if we get in a real war somewhere and Airwoman Make-believe gets assigned to something other than a desk?  Then others have to pick up the slack.

Fifth – this “male privilege”  is projection.  The left always, ALWAYS projects onto others the evils they themselves commit/hold.  Without massive affirmative action bias in the selection and training of recruits, the vast majority of women could not meet even the most minimal physical requirements for military service.  I have a severe problem with any country that would make its women fight its wars, but if they must, their must be one standard for all.  That’s been the biggest crock ever since the Left began this push to foist as many women on the military as possible – from the beginning, standards have been dramatically lowered if not outright waived in many cases (as occurred with the women who “made it through” (they did not, they abjectly failed, but were “passed” anyway) Ranger School.  Thus it is not men who hold privilege in the military, but women.  If you’re a young woman with a couple of kids and few ways to provide for them, and you see all this bias in your favor, why not take advantage?

The advantages women are given in the military (including a very sympathetic chain of command terrified of ever being called sexist who railroad male careers at a single, unsubstantiated complaint) are too numerous to list.  This is all part of a process to eventually render the US unable to fight, to intervene overseas.  Which, given the botch we’ve made of things for the last 50 years, maybe it’s not that bad a thing after all?

That’s tomorrow. I plan on being there.  All details below:

The prayer vigil/protest will take place on Saturday October 10 from 9a – 11a at the Planned Barrenhood surgical abortuary on West Virginia drive (map).  This is part of a nationwide series of protests against Planned Murderhood on that date.  The mill is near I-20 and US67 in SW Dallas.  You can either exit from US67 onto Wheatland and take that east to West Virginia, or get onto Wheatland from I-20 and head west.  It’s not hard to find.

Hopefully I can be there.  I’ve been having some problems with my heart lately but I think I have identified at least the major cause, so hopefully I can make it.

I do have a big Rosary banner courtesy TFP that I will bring if I can make it.  Note, this will probably be a largely protestant crowd so maybe congregate near the banner if you want to pray Rosaries.
