Calgary bishop wages war against the sexular pagan state January 28, 2016

I don’t know much about Calgary Bishop Frederick Henry. I think I heard some rumbles a while back that he wasn’t terribly friendly to the TLM, but that was a long time ago and I could be misremembering. Whatever his general level of orthodoxy and promotion of Tradition, he has done a great thing in opposing the totalitarian imposition on all public and private schools in Alberta of the radical sexular pagan pro-sodomy agenda of the left wing government inexplicably elected to power in Canada’s most conservative province (which, being Canada…….isn’t saying much).
Bishop Henry has released two documents excoriating the totalitarian agenda at work and its promotion of the rankest immorality. After his first missive, he received some heavy criticism from sexular pagan quarters but has not backed down and had released a second tome solidifying his stand. As such, Bishop Henry is giving an all too rare episcopal witness to the Truth of Jesus Christ and taking a stand against the dominant, if perverse, secular power.
Some coverage below from the Edmonton rag, then some excerpts from Bishop Henry’s first letter:
“If you are reading this piece in the hopes of discovering an apology and/or a retraction, you might as well stop reading right now. That’s simply not going to happen,” Henry wrote on the Calgary Catholic Diocese website.
Henry said he has received much support: “Only God can judge the state of the human soul, but it is pure nonsense to suggest we cannot and should not judge human behaviour.” [Dang right. Which is what makes “who am I to judge” – whether taken radically out of context or not (and the evidence says not) – such a poisonous doctrine. We’ll never be rid of the attempts to exploit that dreadful statement for nefarious, anti-Catholic purposes]
Henry set off a societal debate and firestorm when he issued a letter Jan. 13, calling ministerial guidelines to help schools create policies to protect the rights and safety of transgender and other LGBTQ students and teachers “totalitarian.” [You’re forcing radical change in behavior on 98% of the population for the sake of 2%. You’re not just encouraging mentally ill people to embrace their illness (and if you knew some transgenders, you would know exactly what I mean), you are extolling them as the most special, most deserving among us, to whom everyone else should yield without question or rebuttal. Yes, I call that totalitarian]
The guidelines suggest [BS – require] schools allow transgender students to choose which bathroom they want to use, which sports teams to play on and what pronouns to which they should be referred.
“God created beings as male and female. … In his plan, men and women should respect and accept their sexual identity,” Henry wrote in his first letter. Both letters said: “This approach and directive smack of the madness of relativism and the forceful imposition of a particular narrow-minded anti-Catholic ideology.”…….. [Spot on]
…….“I think the spirit of collaboration and looking after children, especially our children who are most vulnerable, I think will steer the day,” Eggen said.
He said the private Edmonton Islamic Academy has been co-operative about drafting its transgender policies and wants to comply with human rights laws. [That’s because islam has internal rules, viciously enforced, that prevent people from ever “coming out” as inclined to perversion or so self-loathing they desire to be the opposite sex from which they were born. This is a non-issue for them, by and by]
Now a few quotes from the first letter:
……..The Alberta Government “Guidelines” issued on January 13th show no evidence of consultation with or sensitivity to the Catholic community. They breathe pure secularism……..
……..All persons – married, single, religious and ordained – need to acquire the virtue of chastity……..
……..Chastity unites our sexuality with our entire human nature. It approaches sexuality as related to our spiritual natures so that sex is seen as more than a physical act. Sexuality affects the whole person because of the unity of body and soul. Jesus is the model of chastity.
“Chastity includes an apprenticeship in self-mastery which is a training in human freedom“(CCC, no.2339). The acquisition of chastity depends on self-discipline and leads to internal freedom, which enables human beings to temper sexual desires according to God’s plan for the appropriate expression of love in the marital relationship of a man and a woman. [And to overcome the slavery of sin, the greatest weakness of which the Fall left us with was an inclination towards abuse of the faculties suited for the procreation of children]
GSAs and QSAs are highly politicized ideological clubs which seek to cure society of “homophobia” and “heterosexism,” and which accept the idea that all forms of consensual sexual expression are legitimate. [And even some which are non-consensual, in their less guarded moments. Never forget that the perverse lobby has children as their ultimate target. The Alberta government is trying to force these clubs into every school, including Catholic, which would be absurdly against the US Constitution – if that matters anymore – but Canada is a much more authoritarian government/society than the US] The view of sexuality that they espouse is not Catholic.
The Supreme Court held that “to tell a Catholic school how to explain its faith undermines the liberty of the members of its community who have chosen to give effect to the collective dimension of their religious beliefs by participating in a denominational school”(para.62), “ìt amounts to requiring a Catholic institution to speak about Catholicism in terms defined by the state rather than by its own understanding of Catholicism” (par.63), and “ìt also interferes with the rights of parents to transmit the Catholic faith to their children” and the “rights of parents to guide their children’s religious upbringing”(para. 64 & 65). [So it seems this regulation by unelected officials is also contrary to Canadian jurisprudence. Does that matter anymore, or are we in a nakedly lawless, will to power situation north and south of the 49th parallel?]
And the second letter:
……Only God can judge the state of the human soul but it is pure nonsense to suggest we cannot and should not judge human behaviour. Reluctance to judge moral behaviour is the inevitable consequence of moral relativism and moral subjectivism that has eroded confidence in the ability to determine objective moral truth on which sound judgment is based…… [And moral relativism is a communist concept and technique deliberately contrived to destroy the moral fiber of the non-communist West and eventually topple the society of Christendom. Mission dang near accomplished, I am horrified to admit.]
……Having a clear Faith, based on the Creed of the Church, is often labelled today as a fundamentalism. Whereas, relativism, which is letting oneself be tossed and ‘swept along by every wind of teaching,’ looks like the only attitude acceptable to today’s standards. We are moving towards a dictatorship of relativism which does not recognize anything as certain and which has as its highest goal one’s own ego and one’s own desires. [And which has most frequently left children abandoned and broken in the wake of these desires. I repeat, ultimately the immoral left will make “normalized” sexual access to children their openly avowed goal.] However, we have a different goal: the Son of God, true man. He is the measure of true humanism. Being an ‘Adult’ means having a faith which does not follow the waves of today’s fashions or the latest novelties.
A faith which is deeply rooted in friendship with Christ is adult and mature. It is this friendship which opens us up to all that is good and gives us the knowledge to judge true from false, and deceit from truth”……
Very true. Bishop Henry’s (and how rare is it today, to see a bishop who refers to himself by not his first, but his last, name) response could have been stronger, but it was far better than the mealy-mouthed response of the Bishop of Edmonton.
Note that this new regulation was issued in early January, and school districts and religious groups were given less than 3 months to draft their plans to implement this regulation. The left never moves slow, while the restoration, to the degree any moves in that direction occur at all, is achingly so.
Well, while I’m fairly certain Bishop Henry has his flaws and is probably not the shining beacon of orthodoxy and defense of the Faith in all the situations we might like, still, good for him for taking this stand. I’ve always thought such things, rare as they are, should be recognized and extolled. Hopefully he will remain as steadfast when in conference with his brother bishops and when negotiating with our sexular overlords. I pray the Lord may give him strength.
Just an FYI – while the comparison is not entirely apt, relatively speaking, Alberta electing the “New Democrat Party” is about like seeing Texas elect an overwhelming slate of hard socialists. The election in 2015 was the first time ever Alberta, as I said Canada’s most conservative province, had elected this party to power. And they did so in dramatic fashion, giving this left wing party a nearly 2/3 supermajority. It was a thoroughly shocking result. And now Albertans are going to get to “enjoy” the fruit of having elected a left-wing government, including the now de rigueur attacks on the Church and Christianity generally.
Voters having temper tantrums can be bad things.

Just a quick bit of data that might dissuade parents from letting their kids have internet-capable/picture-capable phones:
Somebody’s lying about the sending and receiving. I’m guessing boys don’t want to own up to what they’re sending.
So almost half of highschoolers – who will admit to it! – have received porn via text on their phones. Nice.
For any teen boys reading this, and Lord I pray you are not: if you ever get the fool idea to take a lurid picture of yourself, just know that there is a very good chance that “pretty girl” on the other end isn’t a girl at all. It’s a dude. Another motivation not to do it. And you young ladies, that hot stud on the other side may well be a big fat ick. Or someone looking to sell some amateur porn. Virtually all such images eventually wind up on porn sites. And the internet is forever.
Reader skeinster had sent me a link to an excellent article on this subject but I had a hard time turning the content into a post. So I never got around to it. But it’s well worth checking out. If you take naked snaps of yourself, you’re playing a fools game with eternal consequences, and I don’t just mean in the next life. There are hundreds of thousands of porn images floating around the internet from the 50s, 40s, 30s, even the 1800s. There is a whole genre of porn called “vintage.” You think that Parisian prostitute who got her picture taken in flagrante delicto thought she’d still be ogled 130 years later?
The point is……..don’t do it. And don’t give kids even the chance to do it. My kids have a very basic phone with no camera. They cannot text. It’s for emergency communication only.
Innocence, once lost, can never be regained. The scarring effect of exposure to such permanently damaging material cannot be overstated. You are really never quite the same person afterwards. Sadly, I got exposed to such filth at a very young age, and it caused me enormous problems later in life. I will likely never have the degree of chastity and purity I should, because those memories, those images, can never be fully erased. I would so much prefer to be a great innocent like Saint Therese or Venerable Teresita than be afflicted with the self-induced traumas I have to deal with.
Don’t be like me. Don’t know about this garbage. Don’t fall into satan’s #1 trap for us. Our Lady told the children at Fatima that more souls fall into hell over sins against the 6th and 9th Commandments than anything else. Don’t even start down that path, because you cannot control it. It – and satan – will control you.
(Further) exploding the glaring ignorance of Bishop Farrell and other liberal gun control advocates January 28, 2016

Great video below. As I wrote in response to Bishop Farrell’s poorly formed argument against the Texas open carry law and firearms ownership, generally, there is NO GUN SHOW LOOPHOLE. Those who are in the business of buying and selling guns MUST conduct background checks whether they sell in a store, on the internet, or at a gun show. Failure to do so means committing a felony with forfeiture of assets, closure of business, and likely prison time.
I have bought guns every way possible and I have never, ever not had to fill out Form 4473 and had a background check run. When buying on the internet, the firearms must almost always ship to a Federal Firearms License holder who will run the background check. The ONLY exception is people who rarely – maybe 2 or 3 times a year – sell a firearm to a friend, acquaintance, or family member. Selling more frequently than that would constitute being in the “business” and require an FFL, background checks, and all the rest.
In addition, it is very difficult, time consuming, and expensive to buy a fully automatic weapon, in spite of what the drones on the left say. Owning an automatic requires a class 3 license AND an expensive stamp for each weapon owned. It also requires major hurdles, like getting the OK of the chief of police in your locality and going through a rigorous series of checks by the ATF. Bishop Farrell didn’t argue that particular point, but as the video shows, many other left-wingers have.
For our bishop, I suggest he stop getting his information on gun control legislation and current firearms purchasing requirements from the left-wing media and politicians.
I am exhausted with the lectures from people who have never tried to buy a gun in their life about how easy it is, about how terrorists and mentally incompetent and wife beaters all just stroll into gun stores every day and walk out with a full auto Uzi without so much as signing a receipt. They can only say that because they are completely, utterly ignorant of the process. That’s not how it works. If ever a known terrorist does get a gun in a gun store, it’s because the ATF/FBI completely failed when running the background check. And how often does that happen? I really don’t know, but if the ATF isn’t doing it’s job with the current laws on the books, why would more laws make it do its job better?
In point of fact, there are already hundreds of firearms laws and regulations on the books, and they are almost never enforced against criminals. They are enforced most often on otherwise law-abiding citizens. Those who use illegal guns in the commission of a felony are rarely charged with such. I believe that fact alone strongly indicates that the left-liberal push for even more draconian legislation is not about purported concern for crime victims, but an attempt to deliberately disarm a nominally free people.
Ultra-modernist Argentine Tucho Fernandez penning Francis’ post-synodal exhortation: natural law attacked January 28, 2016

Via Rorate, the man who wrote Francis’ forgettable and problematic encyclical Evangelii Gaudium, Archbishop Tucho Fernandez (also the author of a strange book regarding kissing), is also reported to be penning his post-synodal exhortation. This will sum up Francis’ take on the recently concluded Synod on the Family. Early reviewers say the exhortation is just as disastrous as the source would suggest, including attacks on the natural moral law:
The president of the Pontifical Council for the Family [Abp. Paglia] has confirmed that Pope Francis’ post-synodal apostolic exhortation devoted to the family will be published by the end of March……[Abp. Paglia] said the much-anticipated document, which summarizes the Pope’s conclusions of the two synods dedicated to the family, will be “a hymn to love, a love that wants to take care of the welfare of the young, to be close to wounded families to give them strength, a love that wants to be close to children as well as to all mankind in need. “Well informed sources have told the Register that the document, which observers believe will probably be released on March 19 — the feast of St. Joseph and the 3rd anniversary of the Pope’s inauguration Mass — is in its third draft. They also say that the chief drafter is Archbishop Victor Manuel Fernández, rector of the the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina in Buenos Aires and one of Pope Francis’ closest advisers. One reliably informed source, a recognized moral theologian who has seen the draft, said he was “deeply disturbed” by the text as it “calls into question the natural moral law”. [Edward Pentin]
Go figure. This Fernandez has also derided the opposition Francis faced at the two Synods as a tiny group of fanatics………can you feel the love?!? He has proclaimed the Franciscan revolution as irreversible. And yet, even still, even with the testimony of his closest associates, numerous apologists for this papacy still maintain their willful blindness. They pretend all is well, Francis is perfectly orthodox, and there is a bridge for sale, mint condition!, between Long Beach and Catalina Island.
Tucho Fernandez if Francis’ picked man. He is his house theologian, so to speak. Francis has gone to bat for this man many times. He fought a battle against the Vatican to have him named head of the theology department of an Argentine Catholic university. Francis named him an archbishop within two months of ascending to the Chair of Peter. The man is a thorough-going modernist. If you want to read more of his radical beliefs, check out this post by Vox.
Poor St. Joseph, will he have his holy name sullied by the release of this document on his primary feast day? Is there nothing sacred, anymore?
Yeah……if you have to ask the question, you already know the answer.
What do you think of this? Catholic Vote comes out against Trump hard and heavy January 28, 2016

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, Trump is not conservative. He is a life-long New York liberal, a fervent pro-abort and a man who has only very recently acquired most of his purported conservative views. He is an establishment as they come, having been a part of the super-rich upper crust going back decades, even if he is somewhat idiosyncratic and iconoclastic. His personal morality is atrocious – he makes no bones of this – even though he is probably representative of a large plurality, if not a majority, of Americans in this. If he is the nominee, I will probably vote third party.
With my personal opinion out of the way, Catholic Vote issued a pretty strong press release yesterday declaring faithful Catholics cannot support Trump, and giving a number of reasons for that. I thought it was a pretty good analysis, and included some points I had not considered previously:
We have sifted through the most popular arguments in defense of Trump and listed them below along with our own take. Here they are:
1. “Trump is a leader we can trust”
While we share much of the frustration over the failure of the GOP to make significant progress, we are reminded of Republicans’ once oft-quoted criticism of President Bill Clinton: character matters.
Donald J. Trump left his first wife and married his mistress, only to leave her a few years later for another mistress. Reportedly he left his second wife by leaking the news to a NY newspaper and left the headline on the bed for his wife to find. In his book, The Art of the Deal, Trump bragged about having sex with many women, including some who were married. He has appeared on the cover of Playboy Magazine with a model wearing only his tuxedo jacket…….
Now ask yourself: does this man have the character becoming of the President of the United States? [These days? Probably. As I said above, his personal behavior is probably no worse than that of 40% or more of the US populace today. Most voters don’t care a whit for personal immorality any more. That went out the window in the 90s]
2. “Trump can’t be bought because he is rich!”
Trump is a salesmen, and salesmen don’t buy, they sell. So he won’t be “bought.” Instead he will sell out everyone and anyone when it benefits him, as he has his entire career. He was a liberal democrat, pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage, pro-universal health care, pro-government bailouts, and a financial backer and friend of Hillary Clinton until he decided to run as a Republican last summer. He is the definition of an opportunist with no guiding principles. [Agreed]
3. “Trump is a leader who will get things done”
Trump markets himself as an effective leader who will get things done simply by making “smart deals.” He refuses to explain precisely how he intends to deliver results, and more often than not, promises to use force or work around or outside the law. Such a leader mirrors what we currently see in the White House……
4. “Trump is a successful businessman who will make great deals”
If you believe the headlines, you would assume everything Donald Trump touches turns to gold. Not so. Trump has only demonstrated an ability to make deals that benefit him personally. Four times he bailed on his own casinos to shield himself from their impending bankruptcies. And then there is Trump Magazine, Trump Airlines, Trump Steaks/Steakhouse, Trump Vodka, and most famously Trump University, to name only a few — all bankrupt or closed, and massive failures. “Losers” as Trump is fond of saying……. [But he’s also had tremendous successes and is worth several billion, which is not inconsequential. However, he is utterly ignorant of many key issues, especially related to foreign affairs, and I think Putin, the Chinese, and others would make mincemeat of his glad-handing salesman’s approach]
5. “Trump will end illegal immigration”
Trump has pledged to build a massive wall on our southern border and to make Mexico pay for it. Meanwhile he has promised to deport 11 million+ illegals, without explaining how, then plans to allow them all back in legally according to criteria he has yet to fully explain.
We agree illegal immigration is a problem that must be solved. Trump’s solution is delusional, strikes us as xenophobic — and truthfully, will never happen. If anything, Trump’s demagoguery on immigration showcases the emptiness of many of his promises. As President Obama has learned, American presidents don’t dictate laws. The Senate and House would have to pass any change of this magnitude, and such a solution has little to no chance of being approved. Border security and immigration enforcement are realistic fixes. Rounding up 11 million+ people and sending them back to Mexico is not practical or realistic, let alone humane. [Does anyone really believe he intends to actually do this?] Those who rightfully want to solve the problem of illegal immigration deserve more than crowd pleasing platitudes. And it’s certainly worth noting that Donald Trump criticized Mitt Romney for being too harsh on immigration back in 2012.
6. “Trump will fight the Establishment!”
This defense of Trump is somewhat rich, given the irony that Trump himself has boasted of playing the game, paying off politicians and enriching himself from the very system he now purports to reform. Case in point: in the past week a growing number of so-called “establishment Republicans” have warmed to supporting Trump, people like Bob Dole and Trent Lott — including establishment Republicans in Iowa like Gov. Terry Branstad. Why? Because they believe, rightly in our view, that Trump doesn’t have any principles at the end of the day. He’s someone who will wheel and deal — and you and I will be stuck with the bill. [I disagree with this analysis. The establishment loathes Trump. But they are also desperate to get one of their insider candidates as the nominee. Right now, the race is down to Trump and Cruz. They hate Cruz almost as much as they hate Trump. They are playing a bit of a long game. They are backing Trump now in the hope he beats Cruz and knocks him out early, then they will propose Rubio as the anti-Trump. They are praying Trump will subsequently meltdown and then they will have their amnesty boy Rubio there waiting in the wings. That’s the only reason they are feigning support for Trump right now]
Electing Donald Trump would send the pro-life movement back to the 1990s, when the Republican Party wanted to run away from defending the unborn. In fact, Trump recommended his own sister, Maryanne Trump Berry, for the Supreme Court. She’s the federal judge who overturned New Jersey’s ban on grisly partial-birth abortions. The next President may choose as many as three or more new justices……..[I was unaware of this. It shows Trump’s recent pro-life views are not real.]
7. “Trump is one of us”
Trump’s political conversions have all happened at very convenient times. As recently as 2000, Trump was firmly “pro-choice,” even refusing to oppose partial birth abortion! He was in favor of gay civil unions. He is open, even now, to subsidizing abortion giant Planned Parenthood with our tax dollars. He considers gay marriage a settled issue and has offered no plan to protect religious freedom. He is pro-universal health care, supported the stimulus package and government bailouts, supported gun control and a host of radical positions. Trump is like many Democrats we know. He is a political opportunist.
———End Quote———
I get why Trump is popular. Immigration is the number one frustration among the Republican base right now. They see a field of candidates who, almost to a man, are in favor of shamnesty and continued unconstrained immigration. They also see a field of candidates bought and sold by the Chamber of Commerce and huge dollar donors. They see a whole bunch of men who have lied to them in the past, and failed to deliver on solemn promises. They see men who promised to fight Obama given a large majority in both Houses of Congress, and then turned turtle and passed his agenda almost without question.
So Trump sells himself as an outsider, and he is obviously loathed by the GOP establishment, and he says the things a lot of people want to hear on immigration……..those are the top two items on much of the base’s agenda right now. Stick it to the establishment (if not overthrow it), and do something to stop the ongoing, wholesale makeover of this country into a balkanized third world hodgepodge of recent, unassimilated immigrants.
He is also popular because he is so un-PC and willing to say many of those increasing number of things we’ve been told for 25 years now are forbidden. That’s a cathartic experience for a lot of people.
I’m very dubious of Trump and would much prefer Cruz get the nomination – his conservative credentials are much more real – but I’m not sure how much difference it makes at this point, either. The Congress will remain dominated by the GOP establishment and I think they would eagerly enlist democrats to block either man’s agenda. And I think this country is way beyond a political savior, anyway. We have a government of the elites, by the elites, and for the elites, and I doubt either man can overcome that. As much as I wish Cruz was that man, he doesn’t have anything close to the charisma of a Reagan and even Reagan actually did almost nothing to reverse the growth of government, liberalism, and the entire left-wing agenda. In fact it advanced as steadily in the 80s as any time before or since.
So while I’m convinced Trump is a self-serving ideologue and liberal at heart, whose administration would be something akin to an Obama redux with maybe some fence building…….does it matter? I think Cruz would be much better, but better enough to really make a difference? Probably not.
Transgender chic and neutering men January 28, 2016

Transgender chic and neutering men. Those two things are not unrelated. Witness the Gucci spring 2016 “menswear” line. I have to put menswear in quotes because, really, most of this is women’s clothing put on heroin-addicted sodomites. Amazing how whatever the latest revolutionary agenda the left wants to push manifests itself, simultaneously, in a thousand different ways, isn’t it?
On the right, above. Really?!? It doesn’t even fit. It looks like they bought it at the estate sale of a late 70s businesswoman. Nice purse, Nancy.
Those are friggin’ dresses and skirts. And not a one of them is even slightly original, they’re regurgitated designs from the 50s, 60s, and 70s but with horrible fabrics.
Look, the fashionistas have come up with incredibly tacky and preposterous designs for decades. This is the fruit of a decadent culture in a seemingly terminal state of decline. Culturally, we are exhausted. Often these “fashion” designers simply try to be outrageous.
Buuutttt……at the same time, dressing men in what are obviously women’s clothes would not have sold even among the delirious fashionista set even 20 years ago. At least not clothes this obviously feminine. Given the recent “triumph” of the sodomites across Western culture with their being accorded, by government fiat but also popular will essential equality with normal, natural relations, and the seeming ascendance of those afflicted with gender dysphoria in their wake, can this be written off as strictly accidental? Or is it part of a deliberate cultural push by a very tightly connected (and directed?) cadre of self-anointed elites who are dictating to the rest of us how things are going to be?
If I were a betting man, I’d put my money on the latter. Men are to be totally neutered, that’s the goal.
At any rate, Johnny has it right:
And yes I know the actor was a flamer who succumbed to AIDS quite early. Still, funny character.
