What can I say?  I agree, completely.  She is, inconceivably, even worse than the present occupant of the White House in terms of moral dereliction, promotion of outwardly evil policy, propensity to persecute the Church, and personal immorality.  Hillary Clinton can and must be virulently opposed on a huge swath of issues, from her manifest support for abortion to her likely Supreme Court nominees to her support for the government’s endorsement of immoral acts to her manifest disdain for faithful Christians and her willingness to openly persecute them. We are, after all, deplorable:

The priest in the sermon directly states that Catholics are morally permitted to vote for Trump under the principle of double effect, while it is morally impermissible to vote for Hillary Clinton, and while he does not say so, I would argue that doing the latter constitutes a grievous sin due to her disastrous record and numerous statements to the effect that she will seek to expand and force the public funding of abortion in all possible circumstances.  Note he does not say it is morally obligatory to vote for Trump, only that it is permissible, with which I agree.  There are other options that are also morally permissible, though they have no chance, at all, of being elected.  It’s this last bit that finally convinced me to most likely cast my ballot for Trump, not because I am supportive of him to any real extent, but to prevent the election of somebody I find utterly unacceptable on numerous levels.  There is, in this terrible time, no perfect, or even reasonably good, alternative.

I Hate UT Again, Green Berets Confirm US Arming Islamists in Syria November 1, 2016

A couple of quick hits – first, I haven’t given UT a dime since my conversion.  It’s simply too pagan and too structurally immoral – as virtually every modern state “research university” is – to command my financial support.  But my ire was raised to number 11 when I read this recent article about a bit of idiocy at UT, where the administration made plain they have little interest in free speech, unless it’s the right kind of speech:

The Young Conservatives of Texas club at the University of Texas at Austin sparked outrage Wednesday after hosting an “affirmative action bake sale” and charging people different prices based on their race and sex.

The Dallas Morning News reported that a cookie at the sale cost $1.50 for Asian males, $1 for white males and 50 cents for African-American and Hispanic males. Native American men and women were given free cookies.

Asian women had to pay $1.25, white women 75 cents and Hispanic and African-American women 25 cents.

The club drew heavy scrutiny from a crowd of hundreds, but it insisted that the bake sale was a protest against the “institutionalized racism” of affirmative action programs at colleges and universities. Some in the crowd chanted “racists go home.”

“Our protest was designed to highlight the insanity of assigning our lives value based on our race and ethnicity, rather than our talents, work ethic and intelligence,” club chairman Vidal Castañeda said. “It is insane that institutional racism, such as affirmative action, continues to allow for universities to judge me by the color of my skin rather than my actions.”

According to the paper, the Young Conservatives of Texas came under fire in 2013 for holding a similar bake sale. The university’s vice president for diversity and community engagement Gregory J. Vincent called that sale “deplorable.”

This time, Vincent said this bake sale was “inflammatory and demeaning.”

“Yet focusing our attention on the provocative nature of the YCT’s actions ignores a much more important issue: They create an environment of exclusion and disrespect among our students, faculty and staff,” he said.

This is just blatant political bias.  UT, if you want to know why this alum will never give another dime, look in the freakin’ mirror.  Why would I support an institution that hates and denigrates everything I stand for, from the individual right to self defense to the reinstitution of moral standards to a truly color blind society, the one all the early civil rights activists claimed to fervently desire.

Universities are where the shock troops of the future totalitarian government of this nation are being formed up and trained.

On another note, Green Beret’s on the ground in Syria (I guess we can toss that “no boots on the ground” promise out the window – yet another Obama lie) have expressed their disgust and dismay with the fact that they are being asked to train jihadis in the art of warfare so they can turn around and kill Americans (foul language warning):

In a detailed report, US Special ForcesSabotage White House Policy gone Disastrously Wrong with Covert Ops in Syria, Jack Murphy, himself a former Green Beret (U.S. Special Forces), recounts a former CIA officer having told him how the “the Syria covert action program is [CIA Director John] Brennan’s baby …Brennan was the one who breathed life into the Syrian Task Force … John Brennan loved that regime-change bullshit.”

Murphy states bluntly:

distinguishing between the FSA and al-Nusra is impossible, because they are virtually the same organization. As early as 2013, FSA commanders were defecting with their entire units to join al-Nusra. There, they still retain the FSA monicker, but it is merely for show, to give the appearance of secularism so they can maintain access to weaponry provided by the CIA and Saudi intelligence services. The reality is that the FSA is little more than a cover for the al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra. …

“The fact that the FSA simply passed American-made weaponry off to al-Nusra is also unsurprising considering that the CIA’s vetting process of militias in Syria is lacklustre, consisting of little more than running traces in old databases. These traces rely on knowing the individuals’ real names in the first place, and assume that they were even fighting-age males when the data was collected by CTC [Counterterrorism Centre] years prior.” [It should be noted that Obama all but obliterated the CTC and other covert anti-terrorist intelligence gathering and repositories of knowledge.  Because he was going to heal the world, remember?  That’s why the data is obsolete, largely]

“Nobody believes in it. You’re like, ‘F–k this,’” a former Green Beret says of America’s covert and clandestine programs to train and arm Syrian militias.“Everyone on the ground knows they are jihadis. No one on the ground believes in this mission or this effort, and they know they are just training the next generation of jihadis, so they are sabotaging it by saying, ‘F–k it, who cares?’”

I don’t want to be responsible for Nusra guys saying they were trained by Americans,” the Green Beret added. A second Special Forces soldier commented that one Syrian militia they had trained recently crossed the border from Jordan on what had been pitched as a large-scale shaping operation that would change the course of the war. Watching the battle on a monitor while a drone flew overhead, “We literally watched them, with 30 guys in their force, run away from three or four ISIS guys.”……..

………“While the games continue on, morale sinks for the Special Forces men in Turkey. Often disguised in Turkish military uniform, one of the Green Berets described his job as, ‘Sitting in the back room, drinking chai while watching the Turks train future terrorists’ …

“Among the rebels that U.S. Special Forces and Turkish Special Forces were training, ‘A good 95 percent of them were either working in terrorist organizations or were sympathetic to them,’ a Green Beret associated with the program said, adding, ‘A good majority of them admitted that they had no issues with ISIS and that their issue was with the Kurds and the Syrian regime.’”

The fundamental problem is the religion.  Muslim men motivated to fight are not motivated by dreams of a liberal democracy or capitalist system – they might vaguely desire a better life for their family, materially, but probably do not conceive such in the liberal Western sense – they are motivated primarily by religion.  And the most “orthodox” or pious practice of the muslim faith involves, and has always involved, the willingness to use violence.  So given a predominantly religious motivation on the one hand, and the “best” practitioners of that religion being the most violent and involved in these jihadist groups, and the result has been a steady and nearly complete migration of supposedly “Free Syrian Army” liberal groups to the militant muslims.

We have been arming, funding, and training those jihadis for years now.  That’s what you get with a president who is, for all practical purposes, a muslim himself.

NFL Suffering Due to Kaepernick Boycott? November 1, 2016

Alternative post title: maybe boycotts aren’t always ineffective?  While there are a variety of factors at play (such as market over-saturation, disastrous rule changes and officiating, and games that in my opinion are played without heart and which are frequently predictable), it seems the NFL – which I haven’t watched in years, in spite of my general love of football (I’ll even watch a local high school game on TV – they do that around here) – is suffering what might be termed close to a collapse in TV ratings, and it appears to be largely due to negative reaction to the stunts pulled by attention-seeking bench-riding Black Lives Matter activists in the league:

There’s a price to be paid for everything — even for being politically correct in a “politically correct time.” A new poll shows that the main cause of the National Football League’s much discussed ratings drop is, in fact, the National Anthem Protests sparked by the very ignorant and callow Colin Kaepernick.

But here’s the really bad news for the NFL: some of the boycotting fans may never come back.

Watching sports is frivolity, a non-essential luxury, and people are creatures of habit. If fans stay away for a while, fill that time with other pursuits (perhaps more worthwhile ones), they may just find they don’t miss football all that much. Or they may watch more college ball and discover they like it more. Pro football isn’t indispensable……. [For me/us, Sunday is really family day.  That’s what started my NFL divorce. We’re often at church late and then I hang out with the kids.  We usually have a lot going on, anyway]

……Besides being immoral and irresponsible, the NFL has been, in a word, phony. Many will say the San Francisco 49ers’ “Kaepernick has a right to protest, but…,” and the NFL has postured, bloviating about “freedom of speech.” As Niners coach Chip Kelly said recently, “Kaepernick’s decision to not stand during the Anthem is ‘his right as a citizen’ and ‘it’s not my right to tell him not to do something.” But this is nonsense. Freedom of speech only guarantees freedom from government infringement upon speech, and the NFL is a private entity that is like any other workplace: it sets conduct rules.

This brings us to the obscene NFL hypocrisy. The league sets rules for dress and expression all the time; for example, it penalized Kansas City Chiefs player Husain Abdullah for kneeling in prayer in the end zone, fined New York Jets coach Rex Ryan $100,000 for shouting profanity following a victory, and fined Kaepernick himself more than $10,000 after accusing him of using a racial slur. It also has not been supportive of other protests — such as ones in favor of police. [like the hometown Dallas Cowboys wanted to do after the biggest police slaughter in city history, but were refused by the NFL.  This makes clear to me, and a lot of other people, that the NFL isn’t politically neutral, but is part and parcel of the sexular pagan left and seeks to advance that political agenda to the detriment of all others.  In that case, screw them.]

In addition, Kaepernick’s “cause” is based on nothing but lies. Many more whites than blacks are shot by police every year; shootings of black suspects have declined 75 percent during the last few decades; police are more likely to shoot whites relative to the races’ different homicide rates and the rates at which they feloniously shoot police; cops are more likely to be shot by a black suspect than to shoot one; and a study showed that law-enforcement personnel are actually more willing to shoot white suspects, no doubt due to conditioning stemming from the fear of career and personal destruction.

That’s all exceedingly valuable information.  It’s also information that is known, or should be known, but most of the political powers that have given such extensive cover and aid to the radical Black Lives Matter movement.  Since this data is well known, that points to the fact that Black Lives Matter is really not about black lives at all, but is instead some further leftist agitation in pursuit of leftist goals, whatever those may be.  I personally think it is oriented towards creating an environment where extremist demands for slavery “reparations” may be increasingly viable as a desperate attempt to end mass protests,  political instability, out of control crime, and lawlessness.  In other words, it’s the apotheosis of the shakedown industry long perfected by so-called civil rights leaders.  I don’t think I’d be let off the hook for my white skin even though I can demonstrably prove none of my forebears ever owned a slave.

Gimme gimme.  Power or money or sexual license.  Those are the constant refrain of the Left’s coalition members, no?

Lots O’ Stuff for the Octave of All Saints and the Election November 1, 2016

Sorry folks, I am absolutely blasted at work.  My boss has got a hugely important trip to China next week and we’re scrambling around like raccoons in a KC light trying to get a really complex project done before he leaves so he can present on it.  No design……haven’t done any in months, I miss it.

It’s one of those things that I have seen happen so many times………I piled up a ton of great material to post on this weekend and then work just has to intervene.  I’ll do my best but posting will be spotty.

At any rate, obviously this is a very important time of the liturgical year, we just had the great ignored Feast of Christ the King, I shot video of the whole procession but haven’t had time to upload it.  Today is All Saints, of course, and tomorrow, All Souls.  I’m sure most readers are already well versed in the incredible availability of indulgences during this holy Octave, but just for the record, here are the details:

The month of November is dedicated to the Holy Souls. On all the days from November 1 to November 8 inclusive, a plenary indulgence, applicable only to the Poor Souls, is granted to those who visit a cemetery and pray, even if only mentally, for the departed (standard requirements for indulgences apply*).

Partial indulgences are granted to those who recite Lauds or Vespers of the Office of the Dead, and to those who recite the prayer, “Requiem aeternum, dona eis, Domini, et lux perpetua luceat eis. Requiescant in pace” (“Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May they rest in peace”).

*Requirements for obtaining a plenary indulgence:

Do the work while in a state of grace,
Receive Sacramental confession within 20 days of the work (several plenary indulgences may be earned per reception),

Receive Eucharistic communion (one plenary indulgence may be earned per reception),
Pray for the pope’s intentions (Our Father and Hail Mary, or other appropriate prayer, is sufficient),
Have no attachment to sin (even venial) – i.e., it is sufficient that the Christian makes an act of the will to love God and despise sin.
Requirements for a partial indulgence: The work must be done while in a state of grace and with the general intention of earning an indulgence.

Notes:

Only baptized persons in a state of grace who generally intend to do so may earn indulgences.
Indulgences cannot be applied to the living, only the dead.
Only one plenary indulgence per day can be earned (except for prayer at the hour of one’s own death).
Several partial indulgences can be earned during the same day. [I would say an unlimited number of works suited towards partial indulgences can be earned in a given day, either through prayers said (The Raccolta is, to me, the best source for this), or acts of penance.]
If only part of a work with plenary indulgence attached is completed, a partial indulgence still obtains.

OK, that’s your review for the indulgences of this great Octave.  As to the election, there are many prayer efforts underway to implore God’s mercy on this falling nation and bring Grace down upon the souls who will decide this most vital election – perhaps the final one that will matter in this nation’s history, if we’re not already past this point.

First of all is this report on the Catholic Advisory Group created by – it is said – Donald Trump, and their request for intensive prayer in the days leading up to the election:

The Catholic Advisory Group created by Donald Trump, and led by former Senator Rick Santorum, put out the following:

Trump/Pence Campaign Catholic Advisory Group Launches First-Ever Presidential Campaign Rosary Prayer Chain

New York – Inspired by the power of prayer and the successful ministry of the late Father Patrick Peyton, also known as “The Rosary Priest” the Trump/Pence Campaign Catholic Advisory Group is launching the first-ever presidential campaign Rosary prayer chain for Catholics and all people of good will in the United States.

“Beginning today, and daily for the next three weeks, we are calling on clergy, religious and lay Catholics, across the United States, and our citizens abroad, particularly our servicemen and women to say one Rosary each day,” stated Joseph Cella the Catholic Liaison to the Trump/Pence campaign……….

…….The Rosary prayer chain calls for every family or individual to recite the Rosary once daily for the following intentions:

A. For Messrs. Trump and Pence and their families, the campaign, the staff and volunteers, and for victory in the election.

B. For the renewal of the United States through a restoration of our faith and culture, through the message of the Gospel and a dialogue with all people of good will.

C. For the softening of the hearts and the enlightening of the minds of Hillary Clinton and her staff so they may be more respectful to Catholics, the Catholic Church, and its teachings.

D. For the unity of our country during this transition of power and the fostering of peace and unity at home and abroad.

Participants are asked to conclude each decade by saying: “Our Lady of the Rosary, Saint Thomas More, Saint Pope John Paul, pray for us” and then conclude each Rosary with the prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel.

My comments: this is a noble effort, one welcome to see, and I really appreciate the tie back to Fr. Peyton’s famous Rosary Crusade of the 1950s.  Would to God it would have borne more visible fruit at least on a national/cultural level.  I’m certain it was very efficacious for the souls involved, at least until they many went nuts in the following decade(s).

Having said that, I would personally prefer a bit more specifically Catholic intentions, including the conversion of Trump and Pence to the One True Faith, the conversion of our nation and its fundamental re-orientation as a Catholic nation with Jesus Christ as its visible Head and final Authority.  That’s a great deal to pray for, but shouldn’t that be our ultimate goal?  If it were achieved, all else would take care of itself in a natural, organic manner.

Here’s another option for your electoral prayer intentions, assuming you haven’t been praying your own for months, via the Knights of Columbus. I have to say I find the KoC’s prayer a bit better and perhaps more efficacious in its initial focus on Our Lady than the intentions of the Trump Catholic Advisory Group, but you might want to refine the specific intentions a bit.  I would put the moral and spiritual conversion of this nation along Catholic lines the first intention. This was supposed to start on Sunday, so travel back in time and get goin’:

Novena for the Election

Most Holy Trinity: Our Father in Heaven, who chose Mary as the fairest of your daughters; Holy Spirit, who chose Mary as your Spouse; God the Son, who chose Mary as your Mother, in union with Mary we adore your majesty and acknowledge your supreme, eternal dominion and authority.

Most Holy Trinity, we put the United States of America into the hands of Mary Immaculate in order that she may present the country to you. Through her we wish to thank you for the great resources of this land and for the freedom which has been its heritage.

Through the intercession of Mary, have mercy on the Catholic Church in America. Grant us peace. Have mercy on our president and on all the officers of our government. Grant us a fruitful economy, born of justice and charity. Have mercy on capital and industry and labor. Protect the family life of the nation. Guard the precious gift of many religious vocations. Through the intercession of our Mother, have mercy on the sick, the tempted, sinners — on all who are in need.

Mary, Immaculate Virgin, our Mother, Patroness of our land, we praise you and honor you and give ourselves to you. Protect us from every harm. Pray for us, that acting always according to your will and the will of your divine Son, we may live and die pleasing to God. Amen.

Pick yer favorite, or just keep doing what I’ve been doing, which is maintaining and expanding the perpetual Novenas, Rosaries, and other prayers and penances you’ve been offering for this increasingly sick and perverse land for a long, long time.

I’ll try to knock out a couple of other quickie posts before I have to leave for Mass.
