Prayer Request and Anyone Familiar with GoFundMe? May 23, 2017

My wife has a niece who has now had two children (the oldest is maybe 2, or close to) diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, a condition that leaves otherwise healthy children unable to walk and can progress to even greater impairments.  It is considered as being within the spectrum of Muscular Dystrophy diseases.  The two children are Ivy and Cody K., Cody being a practical new-born, Ivy a very cute and precocious little girl.

There are some treatments out there that might help both children a great deal but insurance is not wanting to pay for these.  Thus I have explored with the family the idea of setting up a GoFundMe page, but I’ve never set one up and thought I’d query folks here to see if they had any knowledge of the best way to go about setting up such a page and then getting word out for it.  I’d greatly appreciate your help.  Sometimes things I post on this blog just tend to sort of peter out, not really spreading beyond the immediate regular readers.  Also these things seem to be driven mostly by social media, which I ain’t on.  So perhaps I should find someone who is on social media to set up a site?

What the family needs and requests more than anything right now, however, are your prayers.  I can only imagine what pain the young parents are experiencing, knowing that both of their children have been afflicted with a congenital disease.  That’s got to be an extremely painful cross to bear, as is the knowledge that the likelihood of future children being similarly afflicted is quite high.  Please pray that God may have mercy on this family and deign to work miraculous healings if such be His will.  May He also guide the parents in remaining faithful to His will for them in spite of the crosses this may bring.

Thank you and God bless you!

PS – The niece in question was the flower girl at my wife and I’s wedding in 1994.

You might also try WonderWe https://www.wonderwe.com/. This one is a faith-based site. I’ve never tried it, but it sounds like many people can do mini-fundraisers for one main fundraiser.

Will definitely pray for the children and parents!

Prayers for certain. I have a friend whose husband has cancer and needed funds for MD Anderson clinic. They went through WonderWe instead of GoFundMe as the latter stopped allowing funding for those being harassed by the sodomites. They are cheaper too, the donor gives an extra amount to fund the cause, instead of GFM taking, I believe, 10% of what is raised. Beyond that, I think if you go to WonderWe they will help you set up.

Great minds think alike! 🙂

We’ve found another one that is medically focused that does not charge any fee or take a percentage. They need two things now, money for a series of protein injections that produce very good results especially in babies, and money for a handicapped equipped van. So we’re talking quite a bit of money. My wife has gotten into this though so I think we have a plan. Going to talk about it tonight.

But thank you so much and please keep praying! You guys are some powerful prayer warriors, I can attest.

You might also want your niece to connect to the woman who runs “This Ain’t the Lyceum.” One (or more?) of her children have SMA. She discusses the new treatment here: http://thisaintthelyceum.org/sqt-a-treatment-has-arrived/. She also mentions in this post that the drug company says that every child will have access to the treatment. She starts discussing the treatment at #3.

An Alternative to GoFundMe.com?

We will keep in our prayers Ivy and Cody and their parents to not loose hope and courage. Hopefully someone can open a gofundme page so we could help. 2 little ones sick is always very sad. Good luck to your family.

We are working on it, but it will probably take some time as we need some help from the family and they are overwhelmed right now.
