Fr. Z, Pertinacious Papist, and others are showing some photos of how the Blessed Sacrament was distributed in Rio to the millions of, one hopes, faithful souls in the state of Grace, who received Our Lord in the Eucharist. Fr. Zuhlsdorf asks how even a semblance of proper reverence and respect for the Blessed Sacrament could be maintained under the conditions prevailing in Rio. It appears the Body of Our Lrod was distributed in disposable plastic cups, and there were often mad scenes to receive the Blessed Sacrament. I wonder how many Hosts were dropped and subsequently trampled into the sand/mud?
I don’t know if this is more disturbing, or less, but it is being in German Catholic media via Tancred at Eponymous Flower that the man who 
choreographed and subsequently led the Brazilian Bishops in that ludicrously inappropriate and irreverent dance practice (subsequently repeated at Mass), which got such wide coverage on Catholic blogs here in the States, has posed nude in various Brazilian homosexual porn mags. And, his name is “Fly.” I really, really pray that was years ago and he’s subsequently repented of all that, but he apparently is still guilty of very bad judgement, as revealed through that brain-melting episcopal dance.
It’s fun to stay at the Y-M-C-A! (Village People dance? Could he be any more obvious?)

THIS is exactly why WYD makes me cringe. Not only is it too Pentecostal (I’m a son of an ex-Pentecostal pastor) for my taste, but irreverent to boot.

Scandalous! Appeared in Homosexual Porn. Magazines The last thing the Vatican needs is more scandal. I went to World Day In Madrid but we always celebrated mass at the local parish. I do not even want to think about The Holy Communion Reception in RIO. This is exactly why The Holy Eucharist should be on the tongue only!! Our Lord in plastic cups? Disgraceful!!

ACK!! I saw the video of the bishops dancing?? – was this during the HOly Sacrifice of the Mass??? We have lost all reverence.
Can they confirm that the blessed body and blood were all consumed?
And who will wash all those plastic cups with the sacred blood?
I don’t think the Precious Blood was distributed. Usually for such mass gatherings there is only Communion under one kind.
Oh, one thing Fr. Blake pointed out is that, given the size of the beach (which is known, it’s a very famous beach), there is no way 3 million people were there on Sunday. For that to have been the case, there would have had to have been 9 people per square yard. That’s impossible. It was probably more like 500,000.
For my part, it shows the lack of utility that World Youth Day has for the Church. It is my personal belief that the holy father should send out preachers in the manner and style of St. Dominic, et al. to this increasingly pagan world. History has shown the effectiveness of this tactic.
